VF Hotel - elephant back safari

Is it Zimbabwe's time? We think the answer is yes, or at least that it's coming soon.

Talk with people who were going on safari 30-40 years ago and many will tell you that their favorite destination was Zimbabwe, thanks to its beautiful scenery, fantastic wildlife, and fascinating history. Other than the breathtaking and relatively stable Victoria Falls, we at Africa Adventure Consultants have not actively sold Zimbabwe during our 10 year history due to political and social instability. However, with power sharing in place and dollarization having stabilized the economy, Zimbabwe's time has come.  We do keep a close eye on Robert Mugabe's erratic behavior and will continue to do so.

Please read on for some great ideas for travel to Zimbabwe and specials to our other great safari destinations.

Essential Zimbabwe
Zim - Somalisa Lodge 2
This is the time to re-explore the magic of Zimbabwe. Our Essential Zimbabwe includes must-sees such as Victoria Falls, the fantastic animals of Hwange, historic Bulawayo, and the scenic Matobo Hills.

To begin, you'll spend two days at the legendary Falls in what is indisputably its most famous property, the Victoria Falls Hotel.  Restored to its glory days splendor; it has stunning views, as well as top notch facilities.  During your stay, you will enjoy a classic sundowner cruise on the Zambezi, and you may choose from optional excursions such as a helicopter flight over the Falls, elephant back safaris, lion cub encounters and more.

After the Falls, you will head to the world-class safari area of Hwange.  It is among the top national parks in Africa in terms of size and variety/numbers of game (108 species!).  Hwange is also home to one of the largest elephant herds on the planet; in the dry season, the famous elephants from Chobe are found here.  DuringZim - Somalisa 1 your three night stay, you can enjoy both walking and driving activities to observe the wide variety of resident game.

After departing Hwange, you will enjoy a brief visit to Bulawayo before heading to the Matobo Hills, one of the most dramatic rock landscapes in Southern Africa.  Myriad activities are on offer during your three day stay.   Track rhino on foot, enjoy game drives in the Matobos National Park, walk to numerous rock formations and San paintings, or enjoy a memorable sundowner amongst the boulders.  Camp Amalinda, with its wonderful Safari Spa is the perfect spot to enjoy the Matobo Hills.

Shona & Ndebele

It's always courteous to learn a few words of the local language when you are traveling.  In Zimbabwe, that means a few words of Shona and Ndebele, the two main languages.  Here are a few words to get you started.

                      Shona          Ndebele

Hello               Mhoro          Sawubona

Hello (reply)     Ehoi             Yebo

I'm fine            Ndiripo          Sikona

Yes                Hongu/Ehe    Yebo

No                  Aiwa             Hayi

Please            Ndapot          Uxolo

Thank you       Ndatenda      Siyabonga kakulu

Pronunciation in Shona is similar to English, however Ndebele does have some click sounds, making it more difficult for the average Westerner.  Check our blog for more African language lessons.  Good luck!
