December 2009
Greetings!
As 2009 comes to a close, I'd like to reflect on all the exciting changes that have taken place over the last 12 months and ponder what's in store for 2010. First, I'd like to personally thank everyone who traveled with us this year. Your support enabled us to grow and expand our offerings, despite the challenging world economy. It also enabled us to continue to donate to a number of worthy charities and support conservation efforts in Africa (read more below). I'm especially pleased that we were able to add some outstanding new talent to our team - bringing on Lyndsay Harshman earlier this year, and more recently, former client Gretchen Healey.
As we look into 2010, I'm very excited about a number of new opportunities and trends. More people are booking now for 2010 - especially for peak travel season June-August - and most of our suppliers have kept prices at or near 2009 levels. We've added some distinctive adventures to our stable of safaris, including trips like our Kenya Lion Research Safari (photo above) and a cutting edge Mozambique tour. Look for more experiential based trips in the months ahead. We've already helped a number of clients plan celebratory tours, including birthdays, honeymoons and more. And let's not forget the biggest thing to hit Africa in years - World Cup 2010. (Go USA!)
Finally, if you are like us, the Holidays have snuck up on you again and you may be scrambling to find that special gift for that special someone. We've got some great travel gift ideas in our Safari Shop. And, if you want to give the gift of travel, we are offering our safari gift certificate (you can print it below)...the best way to create memories to last a lifetime. Again, we thank you for your past support and wish you good health and happy travels in 2010. Happy Holidays!
Safari Njema,

New Trips for 2010: Distinctive Safaris
Travel to Africa in 2010 is about celebrating milestones, making memories to last a lifetime, experiencing dream safaris you thought you'd never get to take and discovering truly distinctive trips that will wow even the most experienced safari-goer.
Have you ever dreamed of being a wildlife researcher? We've got the connections to make your dream come true in Kenya on our Kenya Lion Research Safari. Spend 5 days in Shaba and Samburu Reserves assisting one of Kenya's top lion researchers. Cap it all off with a safari in the Masai Mara. Oh, and 5% of the trip cost goes towards lion conservation efforts. Now there's a trip to remember!
Zambia is considered one of Africa's most pristine, off-the-beaten path destinations. On our Zambia with the Experts Safari join "Big Cat Diary" presenter and wildlife photographer, Jonathan Scott, and one of Zambia's leading naturalist guides, Phil Berry, for an adventure through the Lower Zambezi and South Luangwa, and witness the incredible Kasanka fruit bat migration. With just one departure in November 2010, this safari is truly once-in-a-lifetime! Wildlife viewing is usually the focus of any safari in Botswana, but there is much more to experience - especially the culture. Our Hidden Botswana Safari takes travelers deep into the panhandle of the Okavango Delta where they view ancient San rock art, before continuing on for prime game viewing near the Mombo Concession. End in the Kalahari Desert to meet the San people and search for meerkats! It's getting harder and harder to carve out quality family time - follow Kent's lead and take your family to Africa! Our Kenya Family Safari - Deluxe f eatures private bush homes and luxury lodges that cater to families. Learn about local tribes while interacting on a personal level, visit a school and watch the language barrier crumble and, of course, view game in exclusive private reserves and parks!Images courtesy of Bushcamp Company and Uncharted Africa. |

You Are a Part of Conservation in Africa
During the holiday season we often reflect on the "good" we've tried to do in our world throughout the year. We think each and every Africa Adventure traveler has a lot to reflect on! Not only does $25 of each safari we arrange go toward a worthy African charity, but simply by traveling to Africa you support greater conservation efforts through our partners in Africa. The Wilderness Wildlife Trust is currently working on the Kunene Regional Conservation Strategy to help create a park in this remote region of Namibia. The Trust has also completed extensive studies on the Bat-eared fox in Namibia's Kulala Wilderness. The fox was used as an indicator of species for human/wildlife interaction studies.
This year the Luangwa Conservation
and Community Levy was introduced in Zambia's South Luangwa to ensure that conservation, anti-poaching efforts and community education would continue in the slower economy. Each traveler pays the levey (included in our safari costs) based on the number of nights spent in the South Luangwa. Funds are applied directly to conservation and education.
These are just a few examples of the many community and conservation projects being supported by your travels. Thank you!

Did You Know...Fun Wildlife Facts!
Did you know that an elephant's trunk is probably the most versatile and useful appendage on the planet? It is a nose, an arm, a hand, a voice, a drinking straw, a hose and much more, but youngsters may take years to truly master its usage. It's common to see baby elephants amble along ambitiously waving their trunk, or "teens" along the Chobe River in Botswana "play" fighting testing out their trunks!
