Destination Guides for Our Favorite Safaris

Priest in Lalibela

Uganda: is is where the East African savannah meets the West African jungle. This lush country offers great variety - from misty mountains and open plains to Africa's largest lake - Victoria. Here guests can track the endangered mountain gorillas, chimps and other primates. Its bird list tops the 1,000 mark and a variety of other mammals-including lions, elephants, hippos, giraffes and more thrive in it's parks. Read more on Uganda.

South Africa: is a complex country and one of the first choices for many travelers to Africa. Beautiful and vast, it is home to Kruger National Park and many famous private reserves. Its culture is rich and diverse, offering a wide range of experiences - from wineland tours near Cape Town to cultural tours in Kwazulu/Natal. Read more on South Africa.

Botswana: is a land-locked country dominated by the famous Kalahari Desert. With few people and little water, it's a great place to get away from it all. Most travelers visit the liquid paradise of the Okavango Delta, the largest inland delta in the world. Chobe National Park is a great place to see wildlife in riverine or savannah environments, and the Kalahari is home to bushman and an extreme environment. Read more on Botswana.

Tanzania: is undoubtedly one of Africa's most beautiful and interesting destinations. The country's list of incredible sights include Africa's highest peak, Mt. Kilimanjaro; the famous Serengeti National Park; Ngorongoro Crater; Africa's largest game reserve, the Selous; Africa's longest and deepest lake, Tanganyika; and chimps in Gombe Stream and Mahale Mountains national parks, just to name a few. Zanzibar and Pemba islands offer tropical paradise with a Swahili touch, and Tanzania's people are as friendly as they come. Read more on Tanzania.

Zambia:  Zambia has been described as on of Africa's hidden gems and we agree. Home to exceptional African walking safaris, impressive Victoria Falls, the mighty Zambezi River, breath-taking lakes and wetlands, a profusion of birds, abundant wildlife, and raw, pulsating wilderness. Zambia is acknowledged as one of the safest countries in the world to visit, as it's welcoming people live in peace and harmony. Read more on Zambia.

Malawi:  is a small and often forgotten country that is rich with wonderful scenery, warm people and special wildlife.  Dominated by its namesake lake, Malawi is paradise for those who enjoy diving, snorkeling, kayaking, canoeing, and beach time. It offers small but interesting game reserves, and welcoming locals. Read more on Malawi.

Susan has explored the top destinations in Botswana where she loved cruising the delta in a mokoro and flying over the waterways in light aircraft. In Tanzania, she camped in the Serengeti surrounded by the Migration and more.

Susan in Botswana"Botswana captured every essence of my African dream," she says.  "Without a doubt the most luxurious adventure I've experienced.  Not over-the-top luxury, but rather very natural to the surrounding. I enjoyed the variety of flying over the Okavango Delta - with herds of elephant below - to gliding along in a mokoro, which was also stunning, relaxing and breath-taking.  Of course, the game viewing was spectacular and it was rare to see other vehicles!"

Wildest Tanzania Safari:
Kelly summited Mt. Kilimanjaro, snorkeled in Zanzibar, explored Namibia, and canoed in Lake Manyara. She has tracked chimps in Gombe Stream and Mahale National Parks, and more.
Priest in Lalibela
"Arriving by boat, Greystoke Camp invites you to land on the white sand shores of Lake Tanganyika, Africa's longest and deepest lake," Kelly says. "Behind, the densely forested mountains jut up into the sky, and it's within these forests that we had the best chimp experiences we've had in any country. Chimps eating. Chimps banging on trees. Chimps hunting Colobus monkeys. Chimps using tools. Chimps, with hair standing on end, charging at us. It was fantastic! Relatively nearby Katavi National Park is a wonderful, remote park which receives an incredibly small number of visitors each year. If you want to really be "out there" then this is the place for you. The combination of the two destinations make this one of my most highly recommended safari experiences."

Book our Wildest Tanzania Safari by December 31, 2009 and save up to $750 per person for travel in 2010.

"There's nothing like tracking wildlife on foot - you see both the big and the small things. Walking through Zambia is one of my favorite experiences in Africa, or anywhere!"
