Featured Destination South Africa Walking Safaris
We are now offering tailor made walking safaris to Phinda, Ngala, Kirkman's Kamp, and Kwandwe Private Game Reserve. All walking safaris are based on minimum two night stay for a maximum of six guests. Explore the surrounding wilderness of the camp of your choice on foot. Observe small wonders such as spiders, ant lions, and dung beetles. Enjoy al fresco brunches served under shady trees followed by short siestas in hammocks. For those who would like to experience a more adventurous safari, spend a night in the wilderness under canvas in your own private campsite. Call for pricing.

November 2008
Greetings!
Recently, I spoke with Peggy White, a client who is getting
ready to depart on her third safari with us. When I mentioned our faltering
economy and its impacts on travel, she had an insightful comment: "Unless
you're totally strapped or have lost your job, you can't stop traveling just
because the stock market is tanking-who knows if you'll have the good health
and time to travel in the future." Of course, everyone must make their own
financial decisions, but Kelly and I are going to take Peggy's sage advice and
push ahead with our next family vacation. But as we plan, we will of course
look for good values-for example, is there a lodge that is almost as nice as
the one we dreamed of originally, but which costs 25% less? To that point, we
have put together a short list of specials and sample safaris we see as good
values-and please don't hesitate to call us if you want help economizing your
safari. I also want to thank everyone who responded to our Green Travel Survey
last month-the results were very interesting. You told us that while you are
not necessarily shopping for a carbon neutral safari, 70% of you were more
likely to book with a company with a green program like ours which offsets half
of carbon emissions from all safaris. We
encourage you to read more about green travel options below, and try to book
with green companies wherever you are traveling. Finally, I'd like to thank you
for your ongoing support and feedback-based on the positive response to our
emails we have decided to send Safari News out monthly beginning with this
issue. We encourage you to pass it on to your friends who might be interested.
Happy travels,

Tips & Tricks for Money Conscience Travelers Want the best value for your money on your safari? Here are a few tips:
- Look carefully at inclusions/exclusions. A safari that looks cheap at first glance may contain many out-of-pocket expenses.
- Take the total cost and divide by number of days to compare.
- Travel
in the off-season: In East Africa this is typically April, May and
November, and often early June and early December. For Southern Africa,
off-season is typically December to May, but rates vary.
- Check
airfares with us before buying. Keep in mind that fares for early 2009
are still a very good value and more flights are being added which
should increase competition and keep prices reasonable.
- Don't skimp on quality. Great service and dependability shouldn't be compromised. Ever try to get customer service at ORBITZ?

Go Green: Travel Smart
 The
largest contributor to carbon emissions for any safari is the
international flights. Beyond that, safaris that include more walking
and less driving are generally greener than those that include lots of
driving and internal flights. Here are five very low-impact trips which
are fun, adventurous and environmentally friendly:
Kilimanjaro Machame Route Rwanda 4-day Gorilla Trek Selous Walking Safari Tanzania Adventure Trek Zambia and Malawi Adventure

Namibia: A Photographer's Dream
Namibia is a country
of startling contrasts that straddles two great deserts: the Namib (after which
it is named) is the oldest desert on the planet, with its sea of red sand lying
along the Atlantic coastline; And the Kalahari, a vast and sparsely vegetated
savannah that sprawls across the border into neighbouring countries. The many
national parks and game reserves boast a huge variety of wildlife in a
kaleidoscope of differing environments: giraffes amble across the blinding
white saltpans of Etosha National Park, gemsbok plunge impetuous up impossibly
steep red dunes at Sossusvlei, and seals in their many thousands colonise desolate
beaches along Skeleton Coast. Astonishing contrasts are everywhere for you to
savour, enjoy and photograph. For more on Namibia, click here.

Zanzibar: The Great Escape
During
these cooler months it is easy to hibernate. But instead, consider
visiting the sunny beaches of Zanzibar to learn all about Zanzibar's
exciting history and geology with tours to Stone Town, the spice
farms, Jozani Forest or visit the giant tortoises on Prison Island. Or
just relax by the beach and enjoy beach activities from snorkelling,
scuba diving, boat cruises, swimming, and even a dolphin tour.Click here for more information
