Dear neighbors,

I always look forward to attending your homeowner association meeting, scouts chapter or any other event to speak about County government.  Let me know if you'd like me to join you at your next meeting.

I was told by the County's Treasurer's office that our property tax bills will be ready for mailing at the end of this month and should be in our mail boxes the first week in May.  Payments are due June 6th and September 6th.

As always, it's a pleasure and honor representing you on the County and Forest Preserve Boards.  Please contact me anytime for any reason.  I am always glad to hear of your concerns, interests and ideas.

Sincerely,

Bonnie Thomson Carter

New Underpasses Planned for Millenium Trail

Visitors to Lakewood Forest Preserve will benefit from a major Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) road improvement project planned to begin this spring in Wauconda.  Plans call for two new trail underpasses along Route 176 for the Millennium Trail and the  Fort Hill Trail, so trail users will not have to cross highway traffic.

The new underpasses are designed to provide safer road crossings for trail users. The new Millennium Trail underpass will be located near Lakewood's main entrance on Route 176 just west of Fairfield Road. The new Fort Hill Trail underpass will be located on Route 176 east of Fairfield Road and will allow easy access to the trail from Lakewood's Winter Sports Area. Both trails will remain open throughout the construction project.  Click to view the project map.

Realignment of a small section of the Millennium Trail is designed to move it farther from the intersection. From the new underpass on Route 176 west of Fairfield Road, the Millennium Trail will be redirected through Lakewood's central picnic areas, under the existing Fairfield Road underpass and then continue on the east side of Fairfield Road where it will connect to the Fort Hill Trail from Lakewood's Winter Sports Area.

Lake County Needs Volunteers

Are you interested in volunteering to serve on a government board?

When citizens participate in government, it enhances transparency, openness, as well as effectiveness because government officials benefit from citizens' input, perspective, and expertise. The Lake County Board is seeking volunteers to appoint to various boards, agencies, and commissions. Residents can now visit one page on the County's website to search county board appointed committees/boards/agencies, check eligibility, see if there is a vacancy, and apply on-line. Information about each committee, including term, composition, compensation, and contact information is also available on the site.

How Do You Go Green, Lake County?
Try Native Plants
PLAY VIDEO

Lake County boasts plenty of beautiful forest preserves and natural space. Homeowners can support and preserve the natural green ecosystem by planting more native plants. Native plants serve as food to many songbirds and other native wildlife, protect water quality by controlling soil erosion and moderate flooding, and they can look just as beautiful as store-bought plants! Find out how easy it is to contribute to the green movement by watching this installment of How Do You Go Green, Lake County?  Click to watch video.
