Civil War Days at Discovery Museum
July 11th & 12th |
Accompany one of our Civil War reenactors on a tour of the largest Civil War encampment in Illinois. Catch a glimpse of characters preparing for battle in infantry, military, civilian and medical camps and enjoy period music. One-hour tours depart every 15 minutes, beginning at 6:30, and are followed by the booming cannons of a twilight artillery drill at 8:45 pm.
Includes Museum admission.

Route 45 Project |
Project Overview:
In December 2008, The Illinois Department of Transportation announced an $11 million highway improvement for U.S. Route 45 in Grayslake, IL. The project will add two lanes in each direction and a turn lane at various intersections of U.S. Route 45 from Route 137 to Route 120. Additionally, the project will also improve the safety of the roadway by installing a raised barrier median and updating traffic signals as well. Over 20,000 vehicles per day travel along U.S. Route 45 in central Lake County.
Weather permitting, the project will begin in July of 2009 and is expected to be completed in the Fall of 2010.

Gurnee Begins Red Light Camera Fines |
If you are driving on Grand Avenue in the Gurnee area be aware that
the Red Light cameras have been in operation and the Village of Gurnee is ready to start enforcement. Fines are expected to be mailed within 5-7 days of occurance. Those caught by camera running a red will now receive a $100.00 fine.
Locations include: Grand Avenue and Route 21, Grand Avenue and Dilleys Road, Grand Avenue and Hunt Club Road and Route 41 and Delany Road.

Chemical Waste Collection |
Reminder: SWALCO Chemical Waste Collection is Saturday, July 18th
Ever wonder what to do with all of your old household cleaners, oil-based paint, automotive fluids, batteries, etc? Well, on Saturday, July 18, the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) will be conducting a household chemical waste (HCW) collection event. This collection will take place at Wauconda High School from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Accepted materials include: � Fertilizers / Herbicides / Pesticides � Fluorescent Light Bulbs/CFLs � Furniture Strippers & Varnishes � Rechargeable, Lithium & Metal Hydride Batteries � Household Cleaners and Aerosol Products � Oil-Based Paints & Paint Remover � Old Gasoline / Motor Oil / Antifreeze � Unwanted Prescription and Over-the-counter � Medicines & Supplements (People & Pet) Latex paint and household electronics will not be accepted. In addition to mobile HCW events held around Lake County from spring through fall, residents can schedule an appointment to dispose of their household chemical waste at SWALCO's permanent facility located in Gurnee at 1311 N. Estes St. Drop-off events are offered year-round, multiple times per month, including the second Saturday of each month. Appointments are required.

Route 83 Project |
Project Overview:
IDOT has major improvements scheduled for over 4 miles on Illinois Route 83 from Petite Lake Road to the Wisconsin State Line. The project will relieve the severe congestion in northern Lake County on this stretch of roadway located in the communities of Lake Villa and Antioch. The improvements are scheduled to begin in the Summer of 2009 and be completed by Fall 2010.
Over 12,000 vehicles per day travel along Illinois Route 83. IDOT's goal is to relieve traffic congestion while providing safe and cost effective transportation.
This project will consist of 4 phases:
Phase 1 Drainage System Improvement Phase 2 Roadwork Improvement (pavement widening, resurfacing, intersection improvement) Phase 3 Traffic Signal Improvement Phase 4 Pavement Marking Application & Landscaping Improvement * The letting date for Illinois Route 83 was June 12, 2009.
