CDC Releases New Guidelines for the Prevention of Intravascular Catheter-Related Infections
On April 1st, CDC released its 2011 guidelines for the prevention of intravascular catheter-related infections. These guidelines have been developed for healthcare personnel who insert intravascular catheters and for persons responsible for surveillance and control of infections in hospital, outpatient, and home healthcare settings. Office of the National Coordinator Releases Federal Health IT Strategic Plan for 2011-2015
The Federal Health IT Strategic Plan that was last published in 2008, has been updated to take into account the rapidly changing landscape of health IT wrought by the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that have established an agenda and committed significant resources to health IT. Proposed Rules for the Medicare Shared Savings Program - Accountable Care Organizations
The US Department of Health and Human Services has released proposed new rules to coordinate care for Medicare patients through the use of accountable care organizations. These types of organizations provide incentives to healthcare professionals to work together to more efficiently and effectively care for patients. Partnership for Patients
The federal government has formed a new partnership with the private sector, hospitals and doctors to help save patients lives by stopping millions of preventable injuries and complications in patient care over the next three years. The US Department of Health and Human Services plans to invest $1 billion in funding to achieve the Partnership's goals of keeping hospital patients from getting injured or becoming sicker and help patients heal without complications.
