How Will You Respond?
BE THE RESPONSE.
WHY VOLUNTEER?
In 2009, there have been 49 major Federal Disaster Declarations, most recently in Georgia and Kansas as the result of severe storms and flooding. MRC volunteers are able to help in these types of situations in their home towns. Enroll in the State of Connecticut Emergency Credentialing Program or the Medical Reserve Corps at the Yale New Haven Center for Emergency Preparedness. Join for yourself. Join for your family. Join for your community. Please visit www.ct-esar-vhp.org or www.mrc-ynh.org, or call (203) 688-3224. |
Is your ECP or MRC profile current? ECP and MRC volunteers are reminded that they should keep their contact information current. For questions, please call (203) 688-3224, or email ECP@ynhh.org or MRC@ynhh.org. | |
The Connecticut Department of Public Health is reporting widespread influenza and influenza-like illness throughout the state. The overwhelming majority of laboratory confirmed illness are 2009 H1N1. During the second wave of the pandemic, which began on August 30, 2009, there have been 164 laboratory confirmed cases resulting in 30 hospitalizations and three additional deaths. Actual infection totals are considered to be much higher as not all individuals with these symptoms have been tested and many have not sought medical attention. Increased supplies of the H1N1 vaccine are expected in the upcoming weeks. Connecticut's experience mirrors that seen nationally. For more information, please visit CT Flu Watch, www.ct.gov/ctfluwatch/site/default.asp or call (800) 830-9426. |

The annual MRC Training Summit will be held on November 19-20, 2009, at the Grand Pequot Tower Hotel at the Foxwoods Resort and Casino near Mystic, CT. This year, Region I MRCs are excited to partner with Region II (primarily New York and New Jersey) MRC units. Captain Rob Tosatto, Director of the Office of Civilian Volunteers in the Department of Health and Human Services will be in attendance. This will be a unique two-region collaborative approach on skill-building and best practices. All participating MRC volunteers will be able to bring back resources to their units. To kick off the Summit, on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, there will be a New England Town Hall Meeting focused on H1N1and significant public health initiatives. Mark your calendars and plan to attend. For more information, please contact Laura Harrison at NACCHO at (202) 507-4226 or lharrison@naccho.org. |
