Goldilocks and
Emotional Intelligence This one's too hard
and this one's too soft, but this one is JUST right.
Come and see why OKA's approach to EQ training is so unique.
Going beyond the simple quantification of emotional intelligence elements,
OKA explores what happens when each of the EQ elements is in
deficit, as well as what happens when each is in excess - both are relational and
career derailers. Not enough Assertiveness makes you look like a door mat, and
too much makes you a bully. We then generate behaviors, exercises, and
experiments that will help you or your clients to practice and develop muscle
memory in having enough, but not too much. To assist a client in using the EQ-i and engaging in the
actions derived from training, OKA developed the following handout as a
training aid that we now use routinely.
Look through it to get some idea of the EQ-i's scope. We hope you find
it useful. Download EQ Worksheet (PDF)
OKA's next EQ-i® Certification Workshop is September 22-24,
2010. For more information, to register or simply to take and get feedback on
the EQ-i, go to http://typetalk.com/oka/2010/06/01/eq-i-emotional-intelligence/.

Teaching with Temperament: OKA's Newest Download Bundle
Of all of the lenses (two-letter combination) within type,
Temperament (NF, NT, SJ, SP) is the most widely used due to its focus on
observable and even predictable behavior. To assist trainers and consultants
wanting to use Temperament to augment their type training, OKA offers a new downloadable
bundle of Temperament Exercises and Handouts.
The bundle includes ten Temperament exercises (some
basic and some beyond basic), as well as 21 pages of handouts that
detail Temperament, and its application to leadership, teaching and
learning, and teams. We've also included Temperament profiles.
Long an OKA signature, these temperament tools will help take your type training to the actionable next level. Visit the new Temperament Training Exercises and Handouts web page to order.
Free Temperament Resources:
As both a sample of the
Temperament Bundle's content and a useful tool, OKA offers the
following Temperament exercise and handout for free download. Both have been standards in OKA training for decades due to their popularity with client groups.

Want More Theory?
Many in
the type community reject the Temperament model and believe it has no place in
a serious approach to type. OKA has never ascribed to this either/or approach when it comes to type
and Temperament. The downloadable article linked to below explains why the controversy exists between
the type and Temperament models and why we believe this tension is unnecessary:

What, and Where, Is Power? A Look at Leadership through the Temperament Lens
Power and authority are loaded words, and we find in our personal
coaching and group consulting that discussing someone's authority and
personal power can cause anxiety and confusion. One of the principal
reasons for the confusion is that the different personality types see
power very differently, and rooted in vastly different places. The lens
of Temperament gives us tremendous insight into how each of us tends to
view power itself: where it is and how we are most likely to use it. Visit the link below to read about how each temperament views power, and the impact this can have on both those leading, and those being led.
