OKA is being asked to do more and more work with the
generations model. As generational
differences and challenges clearly take a seat front and center in our families
and work places, we'll continue to write, consult, coach, and train to illuminate paths forward in this new and complex landscape. This newsletter points to two Generations pieces, and a popular type exercise that we frequently use with intact work groups wanting to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Thanks to those who have posted comments on the OKA site - it is always great to get your feedback about our writing and products! As a reminder, our Knowledge Library holds a variety of free resources, and we have launched many new products in our Store over the past year. While you are there, join us in the daily conversation on Twitter at @OKAtypetalk. |
Generational Portraits: OKA's newest organizational and leadership approach comes from looking
at the generations now composing the workplace, and ways that each can
flex to the others. Take a look at this new OKA video for a quick introduction
and overview using exercise data from a recent generations
class: Visit Video Page
Cool Parents, Spoiled Kids and Wisdom at the Cineplex: I'm having a great time writing for the "On Success" series in the Washington Post. In a recent post, I wrote about a recent study suggesting that 75% of kids today get along
with their parents, a marked change from the anti-authority
stance many Baby Boomers took with their parents and a contrast from the
distant and disconnected relationship many Generation Xers had with their
parents. Read more about my thoughts on the Generations at my "On Success" Page at the Washington Post. (Follow us on Twitter to get updates on future posts.) Come Learn More! Join us for the latest Generations and Type course September
9 and 10, 2010 at our Fairfax, Virginia training center. First, learn
the generational model: what makes a Baby Boomer different from a Millennial,
and what are the behavioral tendencies of a Generation Xer, and how do these
tend to both contribute to and diminish organizational effectiveness? Once the
generational model is unfolded and explored, we present psychological type as a tool to bridge these generational gaps and
struggles. Learn more and enroll.

Applying Type: Functions and Function Pairs
The "Functions" of Jung's psychological type theory - Sensing and
Intuition (S/N) and Thinking and Feeling (T/F) - are vital psychological
processes that support problem solving and decision making. Learning to
effectively use all four functions develops essential critical thinking
skills.
Visit the link below to access a type exercise that we frequently
use with client groups to develop their use of the functions and their
recognition of function pairs. The exercise takes a minimum of 60-90 minutes to complete with
a group, and assumes a basic familiarity with type. We often use it right after a Myers-Briggs Type IndicatorŪ (MBTIŪ)
introduction module, or with a group that is familiar with type and
wants a practical process for applying it.
