Giving Thanks All Month Long

Greetings!

The days are streaming by, faster and faster, but I really want to spend some time to give thanks:  thanks to be able to experience each day, thanks for loved ones and friends, thanks for the opportunity for love, light, and creation that every new day brings.  For what you are thankful?

Becoming Part of the Harlem Renaissance, 11/10 & 11/12

Harlem Renaissance Show at Master Barber Shop

Hurrah!  I am thankful that two of my newest art pieces were accepted into a show at Master Barber Shop in Sacramento, California, that commemorates the Harlem Renaissance.  The second image from the left, above, is one of my pieces.  But the show only allowed paintings, photography and mixed media, not sculptures which are generally what I create. So I had to search my muse for quite a while to see what I could create that might be acceptable.  What is the Harlem Renaissance?  My_blog contains the rest of the story...

Crocker Holiday Arts and Craft Show 11/25 - 11/27

Kanika at the Scottish Rite Center

Make an impression this holiday season with unique gifts from the Crocker's Holiday Art & Craft Festival.  I am so excited to be able to join 100 other fine artists on Black Friday and Thanksgiving weekend at the Scottish Rite Center to offer shoppers a wonderful variety of original arts and crafts. This is one of the premier fine art shows in Sacramento and I hope you will come.

I will be in booth #144 in the main ballroom and will have many cool gift items like: serving platters and bowls, goddess statues, outdoor metal art, three-dimensional mixed media sculptures, African figurines, breast cancer survivor art, tile art, and Black Santa, angel and Kwanzaa ornaments.

There is free entry to Crocker Art Museum members, seniors over 65 pay $3, and all others 12 to 64 years of age pay a $6 entry fee.  There is plenty of free parking and a cafe with soups, salads and sandwiches.

A Real Collector

Imagine my excitement when when I received an invitation from Barbara - one of my customers, a fellow textile artist at Blue Moon Gallery, and now a friend - to visit her home.  She wanted the artists whose artwork she collects to see how our art is displayed in her home.  Every artist is thrilled when their artworks find a new loving home and it is very rewarding to see how and where the artworks are displayed.

I arrived at her beautiful home during my lunchbreak.  Barbara took pride in showing me all of her artists' works, many of whom I know and whose works I covet myself.  I was most impressed with the vibrant but earthy colors that "pop" against her neutral walls.  It was funny how enchanted and proud I was when I saw where my many works were placed.  "Oooh that's one of mine!" and "Oooh, I love those two pieces up on the brick!" I happily exclaimed.

Barbara's house is decorated exactly as I wish I could do my own, so I felt really special to be gracing part of hers.  And the remarkable nature area in her backyard would certainly be my daily refuge and release.  "Oh, I didn't know you had both of those pieces on your wall!"  This wonderful experience will stay in my memory forever!  Thank you, Barbara, for letting me see your wonderful collection and hearing your art quest stories, it was a fabulous experience ...

If you have purchased art from me over the past two decades, I would love to see where my art is living now.  Please do feel free to e-mail me a picture; I would be so appreciative.

A Sneak Peak at Kwanzaa Gifts

I am busily preparing some artworks
Kwanzaa Balls
for the seven-day Kwanzaa celebration that will take place from December 26th to January 1st.

Here are some glimpses of Kwanzaa-inspired pieces that I will bring to:

* Blue Moon Gallery and Kuumba Collective Art Gallery for the November Second Saturday Artwalk.

* The Crocker Holiday Art Show from November 25-27th at the Scottish Rite Center (and I'll have ethnic angels and Santa ornaments there too).

* My December Studio Show for Collectors of Kanika art.

* The Kwanzaa celebration at the Crocker Art Museum on December 26th.

What is Kwanzaa?  Check this out.
