Inspiring Survivors Through Art

Greetings!

October has been designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  There will be vast and varied efforts to alert the populace to the importance of mammograms and/or breast examinations, celebrations of cancer survivors, and efforts to raise money for breast cancer research.  Numerous art galleries will do their part in fostering awareness by conducting silent auctions and sales of original artworks, with the proceeds going toward cancer research.  Here are a few activities to help the effort that you might want to consider:

Art, Food and Wine on the Delta - Sunday, October 2nd

Kanika Artwork The smell and taste of the grape, gourmet food, and original art?  This Sunday, October 2nd, 12-4 PM, check out six wineries in one place along the Sacramento River Delta at the Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg, just a few miles south of Sacramento.  It's the Delta Wine & Art Faire, 35265 Willow Ave., Clarksburg, CA. This is a fundraiser for the California Delta Chambers & Visitor's Bureau (www.CaliforniaDelta.org or www.carvalhowinery.com).

The Old Sugar Mill is home to a unique community of six California wineries and their signature wines: Todd Taylor Wines, Three Wine Company, Heringer Estates, Clarksburg Wine Company, Elevation Ten, and the Carvalho Family Winery. These will all be open and giving wine samples as well as several other attending wineries and many food vendors as well.

I will bring my wearable art

and goddess pendants and some cool metal/clay wall art and other collectibles and gifts. NOTE:  Ten percent of the sales from my mixed-media art sculptures will be donated to breast cancer research.

I will also be sharing a booth with Michael Fitzwater Photography.

Come for the food, wine, and amazing art.

The Boobie Show at the J27 Gallery

Breast Cancer Survivor Art Pendants

The J27 Gallery plays host to Photo Artist, Monica Newmann Lunardi and her 3rd Annual Boobie Show. Her vision to educate the public about Breast Cancer Education & Prevention stems from her own survival of the illness.  The show is a beautiful portrayal of models in all sizes, colors, and stories. Each piece has a touch of pink to advocate Breast Cancer Awareness. Based on this show, Monica has won many awards, raised awareness as well as much needed money for breast cancer research. Monica and Albie Aware representatives will be attending the j27 Gallery's Thursday Premiere: Artists' Reception, October 6th, 6pm to 9pm as well as the 2nd Saturday Reception October 8th, 6pm to 9:00pm.

I am honored to have been asked to bring several of my breast cancer survivor pendants (above) during the month-long show.  20% of the shows sales will be donated to the local charity, Ablie Aware Outreach & Support Program.  There may also be a couple of my large steel outdoor sculptures welcoming you into the gallery.

Inspired by the AARP Convention
AARP Exhibit HallI found out at the last minute that I would be able to attend this year's American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Conference in Los Angeles, California. But I couldn't find anyone who could go with me, so I decided to go by myself.  After conquering some of my fears during our trek to Mt. Lassen last month, Nike's motto, "Just Do It," reverberated in my head.  I got a hotel room about 13 blocks from the L.A. Convention Center, made sure my car was trip-worthy, packed my bags, and drove six hours to downtown L.A on September 21st. The next three days were a treasure to be amongst my over-50 peeps!

I was inspired by the 20,000 other intrepid people of all shapes and sizes and races, from all over the country to just do it NOW.  Also inspiring were the numerous seminars about health and well-being, cooking demonstrations, celebrities, music, and the resulting SWAG ... all shown in this video.

 THANK YOU!

I truly appreciate your support of my art.  Any time you want to add something extra special to your art collection, please let me know.
