Teeming with Life Tile Sculpture
Art Opportunities Abound
Greetings!

There are so many art opportunities nowadays in the Capitol City of California!  No longer podunk "Sacratomato Town," Sacramento is becoming a center of culture. Yes, I said culture!  Visual arts, music, theater, and outlets for the spoken word all abound in Sacramento. The Brickhouse Gallery

I just got two fantastic opportunities to show my best sculptures starting this Saturday night at The Brickhouse Gallery and the Kennedy Gallery, as well as at several other fine art establishments. I would love to invite you to share in the excitement.  (I think I need several avatars to be at several places at once!)

The Brickhouse Gallery - Feb 12-28, 2011

Sample of Kanika Sculptures at The Brickhouse GalleryThe "Greenagain" group invited me to bring about two dozen of my best sculptures to grace The Brickhouse Gallery in Historic Oak Park (2837 36th Street, Sacramento, CA 95817) during Black History Month.

The grand opening is Saturday night, Feb. 12th, from 6-9 PM, but the show extends through Feb 28th.  The gallery is open Wednesdays through Sundays, 10-5 PM.

Please come and join me and
Shonna McDaniels (Sojo Museum),
Milton 510 Bowens,
Marshall Bailey (Kuumba co-owner),
Jeff Carnie,
Quintell Apacanis,
Kephera Alston, and others.

Here is a sample of the collectible pieces that I will be bringing to The Brickhouse Gallery.  Feel free to stop by the gallery to look at all of the wonderful art.  You may find something that you just cannot live without!

On Feb 12th, 6-9 PM, I will be happy to answer any questions that you might have about how these sculptures are made, my inspirations, etc.

Then travel a few blocks away to the Evolve Gallery and Underground Books for more celebrating.

Kennedy Gallery Fundraiser for Youth

Several months ago, the director of a local non-profit organization, Saint NIA Foundation, which prepares youth to be financially literate, was planning an Art Show fundraiser at a local Watching Over YouGallery in mid-town Sacramento. Somehow we lost touch but yesterday, I was contacted by Michael Misha Kennedy, owner of the  Kennedy Gallery, and he invited me to participate.  So I perused my studio to find a dynamite sculpture that would nicely represent the fundraiser.  Here is a partial view of the seven-foot tall tile and metal and leather sculpture - oh, and did I mention peacock feathers?

Please stop by the Kennedy Gallery to purchase the wonderful art submitted by six artists for this fundraiser.  It is for a very good cause.

And don't forget to visit the many fine artist studios in the gallery too.

Inviting U to the Crocker Art Museum for Mudcloth Madness

Akua'ba Goddess at Mud Cloth ShowFox 40 News interviewed several of the Kuumba Collective Gallery artists on Feb 9, 2011, regarding the Mud Cloth
Madness show currently at the Crocker Art Museum (and through April 17th).  Fox 40 also had a lovely piece on how several Kuumba artists use mud cloth to create extraordinary works of art.  Kuumba co-owner, Iris Dimond, did a wonderful job of explaining everything to the reporter. And Kuumba co-owner Marshall Bailey, Daphne Burgess, Delgreta Brown, Adele James, Frankie Edwards-Lee, and Shonna McDaniel were the artists creating with mud cloth.  I am so proud of all of them!Kanika and her Healing Magic Sculpture

The Mud Cloth Madness show extends through April 17, 2011, at the Crocker Art Museum, 216 O Street, Sacramento, CA.  Tuesday through Sunday, 10-6 PM.

I am seen here with my "Healing Magic" sculpture which welcomes you to the show.
