| Want to Be a Bold and Beautiful African Bra on September 9th?
On Thursday, September 9th, from 5 to 8 PM, serious art collectors can peruse the last month of the "BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL" Art Show at the Patris S12 Gallery (1200 S Street). A few of my sculptures are hoping to become part of your collection . . .
Then travel a dozen blocks northeast to the 20th Street Gallery (911 20th Street) for a preview of the Third Annual Art BRA fundraiser to bring a public awareness about the plight of breast cancer and its effects on all women. Participants in Women's Wisdom Art, a program of Sacramento Food Bank Services that helps women overcome loss, depression, cancer or low self-confidence, have attended courses about breast health, cancer treatment and survival in preparation for the show. My entry, "The Girl from Ipanema," is one of my favorite pieces ever and she was "born" last month at a clay demonstration at the Patris S12 Gallery. Put in a bid for her early - the silent auction is on Sept 11th.
Then on Sept 9th, 5-8 PM, hop onto 16th Street and exit SR-160 at Del Paso Blvd., to view several AFRICAN American artists in the process of creating art using mudcloth, shells, beads, and other media at the Kuumba Collective Gallery (1001 Del Paso Blvd.). I will be making a shapely figure out of clay, or maybe more fronds for another "The Way of Spirit" tree - come and see how the clay process works in action and maybe I'll let you do some carving too!
Avoid the crowds and enjoy art and culture in Sacramento on a balmy Thursday evening.

Be a Bold and Beautiful Art Bra in an Aromatic African Garden on Sept 11th, 6-9 PM
It's Second Saturday Art Walk time! Art, wine, community, and fantastic weather. So here's an itinerary for the evening that cannot be beat:
*Blue Moon Gallery (2353 Albatross Way, off El Camino, just east of Business 80): My big steel, clay, and glass kinetic sculptures sway, dance, and light up their courtyard GARDEN, along with many other Blue Moon artists. I will be there from about 6-8 PM and would love to show you around!
* Kuumba Collective Art Gallery (1001 Del Paso Blvd.). In celebration of Kuumba's first year anniversary this month, I will be offering 10% off any purchase of Kanika AFRICAN Sculptures. Now is the time to stop by if you haven't seen the Kuumba Gallery and the dozen other artist studios in the same art complex. Check out their many upcoming events.
* 20th Street Gallery (911 20th Street): The Third Annual ART BRA Show (http://artbrashow.blogspot.com). A silent auction will be held from 5-9 PM, so get your bids in starting as early as Sept 8th. My entry, "The Girl from Ipanema" was created with the intent of helping the Albie Aware Breast Cancer Foundation and Women's Wisdom Art Project. I would love, love, love for her to find a good home and help people in need. My Breast Cancer Survivor Blog describes how and why she was created.
* Sunlight of the Spirit (2314 J Street): Sunlight is celebrating its third year in business. They carry several of my Spirit Dolls, hearts, and some masks to pique your fancy. And the calming AROMAS, spiritual books and art and other wonderful "stuff" make recovery easier. Check it out.
* Patris S12 Gallery (1200 S Street): This is the final month of the BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL Art Show of 25 well-known local artists. I'll be happy to show you around the gallery from 8-10 PM and help you select the perfect piece for your art or jewelry collection. This show cannot be missed!

The 9/2/2010 "News and Review" Gets into the Garden Too!
Photographer Larry Dalton has photographed me and my mother's work on a couple of occasions since the late 1990s. He came to the "Legacy" art show I had at the Blue Moon Gallery in July and asked the owner, Carol, and I if we would like him to take a few pictures for an article in the Sacramento News and Review. He didn't have to twist my arm! Larry took tons of pictures and settled upon a very strong one in Larry's article entitled "Strong Art" (http://www.newsreview.com/sacramento/content?oid=1588904) - feel free to read it for yourself and please let me know what you think. Thanks Larry! Note: several of the pieces in this picture were sold, but some large steel and clay pieces may still be seen at the Blue Moon Gallery courtyard, Weds-Sat, noon-5, and on Second Saturday from 6-9 PM.
