KANIKA MARSHALL                              August 2010
Fuzzy Logic header

Greetings!

Although the days are getting noticeably shorter now, there's still a lot of summertime to go around.  I'm feeling pretty Bold and Beautiful this month, and you can too, as explained in the first story  below.  And if you love bananas and art and music, read about the First Annual Banana Festival in Sacramento.  Finally, if you have asked yourself "why is Kanika such an Energizer Bunny?" then read the last feature in this edition.

                                                                 Enjoy your Blessings . . .

Are You Bold and Beautiful?

Patris S12 Gallery Show

On Thursday, August 12th, from 5 to 8 PM, watercolorist David Peterson and I will give artist demos at the "Bold and Beautiful" Art Preview show at the Patris S12 gallery at 1200 S Street in Sacramento, CA.  That night, I plan to start and finish my donation to the Third Art Bra Show fundraiser in the demo - come and see if I can finish it in three hours.  My "Journey" and "Yin" are also shown at the upper left in this picture.

The Patris S12 gallery will also be open on Second Saturday (August 14th), from 6-10 PM. Check out this lovely gallery nestled in the downtown area away from the extreme crowds in mid-town.  One of my pieces has already sold so please come early to see the others still available.

"Bold and Beautiful 25 Featured" is an understatement for the work being shown at the Patris S12 Gallery. Gallery owner Patris and curator Gayle Rappaport-Weiland commented that it is invigorating to work with a team of artists that bring such a high level of intuitive energy to the playing field. Showcasing outstanding regional artwork and collectable works from artists all in one location. Let this creative energy rub off on you at the Second Saturday receptions from 6 pm to 10 pm. The show will continue through the Second Saturday Art Walk on Sept 11.

Here is a video of the show setup and the lovely finished product.  If you cannot come during the Second Saturday art walk, feel free to call Patris at (916) 397-8958 to arrange another time when you can see the show.

I will pop in to the Art Preview Show on Saturday, August 7th, between about 6-7 PM and I would be pleased to show you my latest garden art sculptures.

New Art at the Kuumba Collective Gallery - Aug 12th & 14th

Marshall D Bailey JewelryAugust 12th, 5-8 PM, is the Art Preview Night where art collectors can be the first to experience the great art of the new month's art shows.

Escape the crowded Second Saturday Art Walk downtown and check out Kuumba located at 1001 Del Paso Blvd., Sac, CA, 95815. There will be demos of jewelry making and mudcloth creations on the 12th.

August 14th is the exciting Second Saturday Art Walk. Join Kuumba for iced tea and art (and maybe wine!) to keep us cool while we enjoy the art and music. The gallery will open for visitors at 5 pm and stay open until 10 pm for the Second Saturdays in August and September.  Marshall Dean Bailey has created some awesome LONG bead strands great for draping, belly dancing, or whatever!  And I brought a new Diva, Song of the Kente tile piece, and lots of new 6x6 tiles in for your pleasure.

And read about co-owner, Iris Dimond, and her pottery in the August 2010 Sacarmento Magazine.

More information is available from the Kuumba Collective Fan Page.

Proud to be Flakey (at least today . . .)

Thomas Marshall 1952Yeah, I thought this picture would get your attention!

A friend told me last week that some people think I am intimidating because I am always experimenting with new art techniques and making a lot of art.  At first, I laughed at the idea that I could be considered in that way, but thought it would make an interesting theme for my Spirituality an Art Blog.  Here's an excerpt:

"My father (left) taught me an an early age - and repeatedly - to be a producer, a good citizen, a contributor to the world.  As a black man growing up in segregated Cleveland, Ohio . . . read more . . . "

Thank you so much for supporting me by forwarding this email to anyone you think might be interested in my art.  I depend on people like you to help me become a better artist, so please keep your questions and comments coming and I'll include them in an upcoming edition or on one of my blogs: Spirituality and Art Blog or Survivor Art Blog.
