KANIKA MARSHALL, www.kanika.us Bringing Some Exotica to Your Life Oct 2009 |
Greetings!
When the Sacramento Magazine first made its appearance in Sacramento, I was a student at California State University at Sacramento in the 1980s and this lovely FREE magazine made its appearance on campus. I read it every month and enjoyed learning about the "haps" in my town. So I was elated when Joan Waters, their garden writer, approached me at an art show this summer and asked if I wanted to be profiled in their magazine. Anytime! Read about how garden art is all the rage in this newsletter and in the October edition of Sacramento Magazine.
Enjoy these first days of fall and Enjoy your blessings . . .

The Feminine Touch Can Enhance Your Garden Sanctuary
A few days ago, Carol Brewer, owner of the Blue Moon Gallery, called me to report that a woman came running into the gallery with a copy of the October 2009 Sacramento Magazine. "Where is this piece?" she asked excitedly, pointing to the picture of my "A Pattern of Life" garden sculpture that was featured in the magazine under the title "The Feminine Touch." Evidently, the colors in the tiles reminded her of her many travels to Africa. I came to the gallery to meet this interesting woman and we spent pleasant hours chatting about art, Africa, adventure, and our common acquaintances.
I was more than happy to help her pack "A Pattern of Life" sculpture, the "Nature Baby" water fountain and "The Tower of Happiness" into her SUV for the trip home to Grass Valley, with a promise to help her set them up any time she liked. What a phenomenal experience!
Since then, I have been madly working in the studio to replace those pieces in the Blue Moon Gallery for Second Saturday, October 10th, 6 to 9 PM, 2353 Albatross Way, Sacto.

An Edible Landscape Show?
The Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD), Sacramento District, will be having a Garden Marketplace on Sunday, October 25th, 2791 24th St. Sacramento, CA, from 10 AM to 2:30 PM.
I am desperately trying to finish a large goddess-inspired water fountain for that show. Here's a picture of the top-half of the fountain. More more pictures are available on my Artist at Work page, entitled "Creating a Goddess Water Fountain."
Will it be finished in time?
Will it be possible to achieve make my goal of a five foot waterfall creation? Come to the show on October 25th and see for yourself . . .

Closing Reception at Sojo on October 18th, 1-4 PM
I had a blast at the Sojourner Truth Multicultural Museum last weekend! The gallery space was large and really showed the artwork off well, I thought. Many thanks to Ronn Cook and Marshall Bailey for arranging the sculptures so beautifully.
The closing reception will be on October 18th, from 1-4 PM, Sojo Gallery, room 125, 2251 Florin Road, Sacramento, CA, 95822. I will be donating 20% of all sales there to the Sojo's youth art program for the purchase of art supplies, equipment, and other material that will benefit the kids. There will also be a free raffle prize for people who come to the reception.
I hope to see you there on the 18th.

More Platters!
In addition to the large 12x12 serving platters mentioned in the last newsletter, there are brand new smaller 7x7 platters available from my website. Some say they are deep plates or shallow bowls; whatever you call 'em, they're one of a kind!
NOTE: The hearts have also been updated on that same webpage.
