KANIKA MARSHALL Bringing Some Exotica to Your Life July 2009 |
Greetings!
I cannot believe that summer is halfway over! Did you have a safe and sane Independence Day? I know that I expressed my gratitude at being in this country at this time in its history. There is no other that provides the opportunities for so many. But times are tough and my heart goes out the people who are having difficulty in making ends meet. However, there is a silver lining: , in some galleries are making it possible for collectors to obtain fabulous original artworks for a steal! Read on to see where.
Enjoy Your Blessings . . .

This is the Best Time to Buy Art at the Doiron Gallery!
The Doiron Art Gallery, at 1819 Del Paso Blvd., Sacramento, will be having a very special summer sale of artworks by their "stable" of artists during July. Prices will be much lower than normal - the perfect time to add to your art collection or purchase early holiday gifts. Most of my sculptures in the special sale room will be up to 50% off the regular price, with my large tile mosaic wall prices slashed from $600 to under $400! The Second Saturday artist reception is on July 11th from 6-9 PM. Get the best art pieces early!

Starbucks Anyone?
Several Elk Grove Artists have their artwork displayed in various businesses participating in the Art2Hang Program in Elk Grove California. The
art hangs in each business for 60 to 90 days at a time. During July and August, my photographer partner-in-crime, Michael Fitzwater, and I will be showing our work at the Elk Grove Starbucks, on Elk Grove Auto Mall Drive. These works are nestled in a settee area which is perfect for a cup of Joe, something sweet, and conversation with friends. The image at the left, Duo Sprites, uses fused glass in an interesting way.The one at the right, A Study of Trees, is one of my newest clay and metal pieces.

Blue Moon Gallery Presents . . .
For the month of July, the Blue Moon Gallery, 2353 Albatross, Sac, CA, will celebrate my friend, watercolorist Dee Tschida, K. Grayson McMahon and Adam Bradley. I will also show several of my outdoor sculptures, two of which are brand new water fountains. Since the 6' LED lighted sculpture was sold last month, I am busily working on a 7' tile monolith which will "hopefully" be ready for the Second Saturday art reception on July 11th from 6-9 PM; if not then, it will definitiely be ready for their sculpture show in August. I plan to bring more metal and clay pieces for the July show. More on that effort is in this month's blog.

Survey Results
I really want to know what you think of Kanika African Sculptures. I found a great survey program that would help me do that. So if you're feeling brave, please take five minutes to take my survey (yes, there's a thank you gift for your trouble! smile). Camil redeemed my "thank you for taking the survey" gift last week and added to her extensive Kanika collection! You can too if you complete it.

Fresh New Works from the Kiln
I am an undisciplined, nonconforming type of artist. I do not have nice, orderly themes of work. I do not painstakingly think about exactly what I am going to create and then draw it out carefully before the sculpting begins.
NOPE, that's not me!
For example, on the same day in the studio, I could create a plate, a 3-D statue, a goddess, and/or some hearts. See more new works in my blog.
The picture on the left is the new 7' LED monolith that I hope to have at the Blue Moon Gallery this or next month. On the right is a detail shot of a portion of the monolith. Many more pix are on my blog.
