Greetings!
At long last, the 50-50 show is nearly here! Over 75 artists each created 50 artworks over a 50-day period. Awesome! Read below and see what the show is and why I'm so excited to be part of it . . . and how you can join the fun no matter where you live in the world!
Yes, April brings the blossom of spring. Youth. Cleanliness. Newness. Abundance. Warmth. And my four-month old granddaughter is visiting from North Carolina in mid-April!!! I can't wait!

50 Artworks in 50 Days???
The 50-50 show will be here at the 20th Street Gallery (911 20th Street, Sacramento, CA), starting on April 9th and lasting until May 30th, 2009.
THIS SHOW IS EXPLOSIVE!
What is the 50-50 show? I was selected among about 75 other artists, each making 50 (fifty) 6"x6" artworks over a 50 day period. Each artist chose a theme for all 50 of their pieces and will charge between $50 and $300 per piece.
I chose the theme "The Voyeurs". People watching us. Us watching people. People
morphing into other people. Parts of other people. Six degrees of separation. We are one family. Each of my
pieces connects to the artwork next to it and above and below it. Each is a clay tile with some sort of face painted on it. Some have fabric,
beads, leather, glass, or wire to further enhance the face within. Each piece may be purchased separately for $97, so you can mix and match pieces, if you like. And you may have them matted and framed if you like.
If you would like to purchase any of the tiles shown on my website but cannot visit the gallery during the show, I encourage you to call the gallery
(916-930-0500) as soon as possible after April 8th. Be sure to give them the number of the tile (as shown on the webpage). The earlier you put your name on the
tile you want, the better the chance that you will get the perfect art piece for you. If desired, the gallery will ship the tile to you for a
small fee after the show.
I had so much fun making these sculptures and I hope you will take a look and purchase one or more for your collection.

Artist Eileen Downes Has a New Book!
One of my favorite artist friends, Eileen Downes, is unveiling a new book of her amazing art collages in: "Eileen Downes...the artist who 'paints' with bits of torn paper for a palette - selected works." This 55-page glossy, soft bound book is filled with full-color photographs of her art from several series. Check out her fabulous work here.

You Named That Sculpture
Last month, I asked you to help me select a name for this piece. My good friend and mentor, John K., suggested "In the eye of the beholder," "I remember," and "Beginnings," among other ideas. Joann H. offered "Loving the Sun and Rain." Jane B. thought "Shall We Dance" was fitting and my cousin, Norma G., voted for "Animus Anima."
You all are so creative! I couldn't decide, so I put all of the names into a basket and pulled out "Beginnings" as the winner. So, until June 30, 2009, John Keller receives 10% off any one sculpture from my collection.
Congratulations John!

Newest Works in the Studio
There is always something new to create in the Kanika African Sculptures studio. For the last year or so, I have been experimenting with outdoor art. Tile creations that stand the test of the elements. Kinetic sculpture that moves in the breeze. Water sculpture. Lighted sculpture.
But my dear friend and metal sculptor, Kristen Hoard, had perhaps the supreme idea! Metal with tile. She commissioned me to make a bunch of small tile sculptures that she can use on her work. In return, she turned me on to her metal studio.
