GREETINGS FROM NORTHERN N.H.!
Amazingly, we're nearly halfway through summer and it's been a pretty good one so far, with the exception of this past week. Lots of rain this week got our water table back on track (after several beautiful weeks of weather), and hopefully we'll keep the nice summer days rolling once this passes through. The prediction is for more warmth coming our way in late July and early August, so our good weather definitely isn't over yet.
Lots of animals of fin, feather and fur around these days - it's the time of year where we see mothers and their young tooling around the lake, and roads. Be careful when you're driving around, as we've seen several does with fawns and cow moose with their calves on Route 3 north. Back Lake has it's usual assortment of mallard families and geese with their young, and we have our loons, osprey and an eagle or too hanging out near the lake too. We also have an abundance of hummingbirds this summer taking advantage of our feeders at the lodge, so bring along a good camera to get some great images of our wildlife.

What of the fishing in our area? The hex hatch continues for probably the next week or so at Back Lake, and when you hit it on the right night (clear with little wind) you will be amazed at what this largest of the mayflies will do to a trout's discretion. The smallmouth bass also favor the hex fly, so even if the trout are uncooperative, the bass will usually play along. We have all the flies you might need for the hex hatch, as well as the most effective spinners and lures for Back Lake in our fly shop located in the main lodge.

The Connecticut River's "Trophy Stretch" and river stretch south of Lake Francis have been excellent fishing lately, with the flows at stable levels for wading. Lots of trout have been stocked by NH Fish & Game this summer, so there's plenty of fish there to be educated. Keep checking our Fishing Blog for the latest news on fishing in the Pittsburg, NH area.
We have some openings in the lodge and cabins this summer, so please check out our availability if you can make that break from reality - we'd love to see you again!
