GREETINGS FROM NORTHERN N.H.!
Spring and fishing season are definitely here, as Back Lake's resident loons have returned for the serenade that they provide us annually. The wailing of our loons can reach epic proportions, especially on those moonlit nights, but there's nothing like it for sure and we are so lucky to have them. There's even been a few moose, deer and bears out in the last few weeks, so all of our "locals" are enjoying spring's reawakening. New Hampshire's state bird, the black fly, is still a couple weeks away from visiting us in force and the less said about that, the better ...
Back Lake has been good fishing the last couple of weeks, with several guests catching a fair number of trout trolling. The N.H. Fish & Game Department has already stocked the lake at least once and we expect several more stockings in the next month or so. The Connecticut Lakes have also been very good lately, so if you like to fish the big lakes for trout and salmon, this is a great time to come up. The Connecticut River has been fishing well too lately, particularly at the inlets of the lakes where rivers and streams come in. You can follow along on how things are going on the river at our Fishing Blog when you have a chance, but don't let your boss catch you! Many of the gates on the logging roads have been opened this spring, which means that quite a few of the outer ponds are also open for brook trout fishing. We'll be checking on our row boats at these ponds this week, so that will provide another spring fishing option. We're not sure if the early opening of the gates will affect the opening of the ATV trails in Pittsburg (they typically open each Memorial Day weekend), so please check the website of the Great North Woods Riders ATV Club if you're interested. As usual, the Cohos Trail provides some great day hikes in town, and there's always plenty of paddling and mountain biking opportunities in Pittsburg as well.
What's new at Tall Timber? Not too much (sorry, still no cell phone coverage), but we did upgrade the kitchen at Pine #9, and we also added some much needed lakeside seating room in the Tavern, so hopefully you'll stretch out more after a long day in the outdoors with one of Tanya's Rainbow Grille martinis. The Rainbow Grille opens this Thursday, May 10, so the wait is almost over to sample chef Dave and chef Ben's latest culinary creations. We have some openings in the lodge and cabins coming up, so please check out our availability if you can make that break from reality - we'd love to see you again!

Tall Timber's Fly Fishing Schools Coming in June & July
 | |
Instructors Angus Boezeman & Alan Erdossy
|
You're invited to join the world-class instructors of Broadside International on the productive upper Connecticut River during the peak of our trout season where you'll discover how to enjoy successful days astream. For nearly twenty years, Tall Timber has hosted successful fly fishing schools offered by Broadside's International angling team. The programs provide an in-depth introduction to the wonderful world of trout and trout fishing with the fly. All aspects of the sport are covered in both the Simplified Fly Fishing and the Stream Tactics and Technique programs.
 | The Connecticut River
is your classroom! |
We kick everything off with the "Simplified Fly Fishing" School for Beginners the weekend of June 1 -3, followed up by the "Stream Tactics & Techniques" class geared for Intermediate fly fishermen and women on the weekend of July 13 - 15. Classes are small in size but packed with information and definitely go in depth on basic and advanced techniques.
The cost of the Fly Fishing Schools are $560 for the weekend per student, and include basic accommodations, all meals, taxes, gratuities and instructional fees. It's a great value and well worth the investment to begin or enhance your pursuit of trout with the fly. Equipment and waders can be arranged for students that don't have their own gear.

Thank You!
June 1, 2012 will mark thirty (yup, that's 3 - 0) years in business for our family at Tall Timber and we want to take this opportunity to thank all of our guests over the years. Little did we realize how many wonderful people and great friends we would meet when our parents bought Tall Timber in 1982. Whether you just found us in the last few years, or have been with us from our start (it's ok, you're not that old ...), we appreciate that you find your way back to us year after year. It's been a great ride and we hope it continues for many years to come! ____________________________________
