March Volunteer E-Newsletter
March 18, 2011
Dear Friends,

Many of you may already know this, but in case you don't - we've got some exciting news to share!

Program Director and co-founder of Horses for the Spirit, Robbie Maus (read more here), has been accepted into a three-month professional training program at Parelli Natural Horsemanship. For those of you who are new to our volunteer ranks, our curriculum has been developed around the Parelli 7 Games with the focus on teaching positive life and social skills.

In this immersion program at the Parelli Colorado campus, Robbie will  be learning what are called the Four Business Savvys:
  • Teaching
  • Horsemanship
  • Business Administration - which includes marketing and savvy use of social networking
  • Facilities & Maintenance
We are very proud of her acceptance into this high-quality and strenuous program, and when she returns, the potential for growth of the organization in many areas will be enhanced.

Horses for the Spirit will benefit by having:

  • a Parelli certified instructor to train new program instructors within Horses for the Spirit which will increase our reach in the community over time;
  • the opportunity to develop a training program to bring in others from our industry which will help financially support HFTS and its mission as well as expand the reach of our programs outside the area;
  • the possibility of offering certified clinics open to anyone in the community as a means of raising funds to help support our organization;
  • the ability to offer enhanced training opportunities for our volunteers in all four of the business savvys.
This is as a real opportunity to increase the strength of our organization and to build upon what we've spent the last five and a half years developing.

We encourage you to support Horses for the Spirit in this endeavor by making a tax-deductible cash donation to support the cost of this training. We believe the long-term impact of this training will be substantial to the growth and sustainability of Horses for the Spirit.

No funds from grants or previous fundraisers are going to be utilized  to support any portion of the cost of this training, so if continuing education and increasing the growth and sustainability of Horses for the Spirit are high on your list of priorities, please consider donating today. (Please specify that your donation is for this training.)

Sincerely,

Deb Conrad

Executive Director

SPRING CLEAN UP DAY - THANK YOU!

 A big and hearty thanks to all the volunteers who came out and worked their tails off at the Spring Clean Up Day on Saturday, March 12th! We couldn't have done it without all of you!

WINE & SPIRITS 2011 - WE NEED YOU!

It is that time again everybody -- time to start planning for Wine & Spirits 2011!

We have already secured a room at the Silver Legacy for the 2011 event... and we've got lots more work to do!

Please help make the 2011 event the best yet by joining the Wine & Spirits 2011 Committee.

Our annual fundraiser is an important part of our ability to continue offering programs in the community, so contact Deb Conrad to help with planning, marketing, securing raffle/silent auction items and to help work the event.

HistoryHOW'D THIS ALL START ANYWAY? SPOTLIGHT ON ROBBIE MAUS, PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Robbie Maus has been one of the key players in the development and growth of Horses for the Spirit since before it officially began in 2005.

She's developed our Natural Horsemanship/Life Skills program and we've received calls from as far away as Australia to find out how we successfully partner the Parelli 7 Games with a Life Skills curriculum.
