February Volunteer E-Newsletter
February 10, 2011
Dear ,

We recently received $500 from the Stollmeyer Family Fund for operating support! We are extremely grateful for this contribution. $500 goes a  long way for us... it might pay for some of our rent, or about half of our insurance costs, or some hay for Dudley and Otis, the two horses officially owned by HFTS.

All of a sudden, the Horses for the Spirit calendar has filled up, so please review all of the items below -- there are trainings, a clean up day and opportunities to work in programs listed below.

Here's a summary of upcoming events:

We have not heard from many of you about the Volunteer & Supporter Appreciation Party on Sunday, March 6th yet, so please let us know if you plan to join us... plus there will be a special announcement that night at 7 pm! RSVPs are due by February 20th. We'd love to see you there!

Here's to hoping we have weather this fabulous for our upcoming  programs.

Sincerely,

Deb Conrad

Kathy Peterson VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
KATHY PETERSON

Kathy has been a dedicated volunteer with Horses for the Spirit since the beginning. She's been a great volunteer helping with many aspects within our organization and in the summer of 2010 she took things to the next level and began teaching the Activities-based programs we are now offering to clients like No Child Left Behind who have younger children in need of our services. We're proud of Kathy's accomplishments and love her enthusiasm!

teambuildingTEAM-BUILDING WORKSHOP FOR VOLUNTEERS

SATURDAY, MARCH 26 FROM NOON - 4 PM

If you plan to volunteer this year, we want you to attend!

Horses for the Spirit volunteersWe strongly believe this is going to be a important training for all of us, so please plan to attend if at all possible.

The workshop is going to be headed up by Louise Sutherland who is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and works with children in a residential treatment facility. She's a certified Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA) Mental Health Professional. Louise's co-facilitator is Lisa Kelly who is a certified EAGALA Equine Specialist. They have both been seeking opportunities to practice this work and we're going to be the beneficiaries.

Louise and Lisa will be planning and leading this team-building workshop which gives Robbie and others who normally lead trainings for HFTS the chance to participate in the workshop as well with all of us volunteers. Louise and Lisa will determine which EAGALA activities to offer during the training and lead the processing which will occur afterward.

As a group we'll benefit from participating together in an opportunity for growth and learning, and the added bonus is that those of us who are unfamiliar with the EAGALA model will learn about it by doing it!

Please send your RSVP to Suzy Anderson  by March 16th.

When: Saturday, March 26, noon to 4pm
Where: Josie Martin's Place in Spanish Springs (directions to be provided)
What: EAGALA Team-Building Workshop for Volunteers

What to Bring: Yourself, pen and paper! HFTS will provide water and snacks.

REFRESHER4-HOUR REFRESHER TRAINING WITH HORSES
SATURDAY, APRIL 9, 9am to 1pm

This training will feature a Q&A session with Robbie as well as hands on time with the horses for an opportunity to refresh and/or further hone your skills with the horses prior to the programs starting this year.

Also, please RSVP to Suzy Anderson for this training by March 26th and, if you already have questions in mind for Robbie, please submit them with your RSVP. The questions can be about anything pertaining to working in the programs -- horses, kids, EAL, experiential learning etc.
