Dear Friends,
We are three sessions into our Fall Program with an amazing group of kids from Kids Kottage and a foster family. This is one smart group and they are going to keep us on our toes!
We had an important discussion yesterday in our wrap up about the balancing act between getting a task done and maintaining the relationship with the horse.
One young man was concerned that his horse, Otis, was different in this last session. He and Otis were very connected and engaged in the last session and this time Otis did not appear to be interested at all.
We discussed what happens to us human beings when we become focused on the task at hand. We have a tendency to put completing the task ahead of all else, even when we are aware that we are getting the task done at the expense of something else... like the relationship with the horse in this case.
We gave this boy permission to put the relationship with his horse first when necessary, regardless of what task we've asked him to do. We think he was a bit surprised!
We encourage our kids to think for themselves and to express themselves in a positive way when they have an idea about what they need to do to be successful over the long run... not just with horses, but in life.
You can help us continue in our vision to partner humans and horses for positive transformation attending our Wine & Spirits fundraiser on November 4.
Sincerely, Deb Conrad Executive Director Pro Tem ________________________________________________________

FACILITY CLEAN UP DAY - THANK YOU!
We want to thank everyone who helped us at our facility clean up day. The weeds had gone crazy, an arena panel was broken and needed to be replaced and the trailer and the classroom needed straightening up and a good cleaning -- everyone worked hard for several hours and left the place looking fantastic!
Special thanks to Ernie of Little City Landscape for making Horses for the Spirit an arena drag and bringing a quad* so we could drag the arena and keep it looking great. Also, thanks goes to Eve Garcia, one of the tenants on the property, who allowed Ernie to use her tractor to do most of the weeding that was necessary. Having to do that all by hand would've been so much more work!
We know it is a lot to ask for folks to come out and spend half of a weekend day cleaning up our place, but we really appreciate it and would be hard pressed to do what we do without help on occasions such as these too.
THANK YOU ALL!
*Horses for the Spirit is in need of a quad to put our new arena drag to use every week! A substantial donation such as this would really help us with our facility maintenance!
