QUOTE OF THE MONTH
"If it wasn't for this program I would still be hard headed and I wouldn't be flexible. Even if I was a leader before, I would be rude and thought I was in total control. Now I will think about what the other horse or person thinks before I go ahead." Justine
HORSES FOR THE SPIRIT NEWS

It's been about two months since our last newsletter and we've gotten quite busy now that Fall has arrived.

We held our volunteer training and met some fantastic new volunteers, hosted our demo in September and now we're ramping up for "Wine & Spirits" fundraiser on November 5th, plus we've got a program starting this month.

We also can't forget to mention that a few of our volunteers participated in the Aha Moment tour. We thought this was pretty neat - Mutual of Omaha sent a mobile studio around the country to record aha moments from all kinds of people and some of the spots are being used for commercials. It was a great chance for us to share why we got hooked on Horses for the Spirit.

Volunteer Steve Swartz recorded one too about his vision to start a program for parents.

PROGRAM WITH CHILDREN'S CABINET
We are pleased to announce that we will be conducting a program with youth from Children's Cabinet starting on Tuesday, October 13, from 5 pm to 6:30 pm and to be held every Tuesday for 6 weeks.

Due to time constraints and coordination of schedules, this program will be a little different than our usual program. This program will incorporate concepts from Strides to Success rather than the natural horsemanship program. We're excited that we can be flexible enough to offer different services as needed!

We are offering volunteers the opportunity to sign up to observe the program and learn about a different type of program that we offer. There will be three spots per session, so depending on the interest level, volunteers may or may not be able to attend more than one session. Starting date for attendees is Tuesday, October 20th.

Please contact Pam Olivieri to schedule your attendance for this program and receive directions.

DEMONSTRATION WRAP UP
We held a successful demonstration at Avalon Friesians on September 17. Attendance was great and we thank everyone who came to find out more about us!

Although we were scheduled to have five graduates attend the demo to "show off" their skills with the horses and talk about what they learned in our program, we ended up with just two. They did a great job -- we're really proud of them. They are our best representatives.

We want to thank Avalon Friesians and all the volunteers who helped bring horses, set up for and work the event! We can never say this enough - we can't do it without all you!

We're hoping to put up pictures on the website from the event sometime soon.
We hope you've enjoyed this newsletter and encourage you to send it to friends, family and colleagues who might be interested in Horses for the Spirit. Please send us an email if you have any trouble viewing this newsletter or if you have questions or comments.

Sincerely,

THANK YOU!
We couldn't do what we do without support from foundations and individuals in our community. We are grateful for the support and know that the kids who have been able to participate in our programs because of your financial support are very thankful too!
