DEAR FRIENDS:

We want to welcome aboard our new Volunteer Coordinator, Jan Koval. We know that her 20 years of Human Resources experience will benefit the organization greatly and we are looking forward to implementing some of her ideas to improve the process of getting new volunteers started with us.

We also want to announce our new partnership with Social Services. We have contracted with them to implement a program starting October 11th and another one in the spring. We look forward to assisting them in reaching their goals with their kids.

We've begun to discuss our next Volunteer Play Day. Although the date has not been set, we anticipate announcing the details soon. We'll have a day of fun and getting to know each other better that also teaches you more about working with the kids and horses.

Thank you for your continued support of Horses for the Spirit. Whether you are a regular volunteer or a supporter-at-large, we appreciate your interest in giving kids in our community a chance to reach their full potential.

Hanging Out

WE NEED YOUR HELP WINNING THE WAR AGAINST THE WEEDS AT OUR FACILITY!

The weeds are taking over the facility! If you've got a pair of gloves and some spare time to devote to helping us wipe out the weeds, please join us.

Date and Time
Sunday, September 28, 10 a.m. to Noon

Location
9500 N. Virginia

What to Wear or Bring
Long sleeve shirt and pants recommended as some of the weeds are very scratchy and tough. Also bring gloves! If you have a hoe or wheel barrow that you can bring, that would be great, but not necessary.

RSVP
Email Jan Koval at volunteers@horsesforthespirit.org or call Deb at 224-5999.

We'll provide beverages and snacks to keep our army of Weed Warriors going.

SUCCESS STORY
Our most recent success story is that Kevin, one of the teens in our pilot program from about three years ago, called Robbie to let her know that he had graduated from boot camp and was off to start specialized training. He is proud of his accomplishments and shared with Robbie that his experience in the Horses for the Spirit program was one of the biggest factors in achieving his goals as a young adult. This kind of feedback from graduates of our program is exactly what we strive for; it sums up nicely the concept of "partnering humans and horses for positive transformation."
NEW & ONGOING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

If you can help with any of the following, please contact Jan Koval, volunteers@horsesforthespirit.org or call Deb at 224-5999.

ON-GOING VOLUNTEER NEEDS
There are many ways to volunteer with Horses for the Spirit! We are always in need of folks who want to:
  • Help maintain our facilities
  • Assist with administrative duties (typing, making phone calls, doing research)
  • Help with fund raising events
  • Hand out flyers at events
  • Network for Horses for the Spirit
  • Join a committee

POLICIES & PROCEDURES TEAM

  • Do you have human resources experience?
  • Do you enjoy reviewing and creating policies and procedures?
  • Do you like to think about the "what ifs" in life and help create ways to handle them?
  • Do you have some time you'd like to devote to Horses for the Spirit to make a positive impact for our organization?

If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, you might be just the person we're looking for! Consider joining our Policies and Procedures team. This is an immensely important job and necessary to our continued success.

Contact us to find out more.... or tell us what you want to do and we'll see if we can find a way to put you to work AND have fun at the same time!

NEW VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION WAS A SUCCESS
Monday, September 8th we held a New Volunteer Orientation at the Round Table Pizza on Northtowne Lane. About ten enthusiastic new volunteers showed up to learn more about the organization and how to volunteer with us. Thanks to everyone who attended and brought with them their great energy which helps keeps this organization moving forward.

We'll be planning another orientation in the next month or so. If you are interested in attending the next one, please email Jan at volunteers@horsesforthespirit.org. We'll send an announcement when the date is set.

(Thank you to Round Table Pizza - Northtowne Lane for donating two pizzas to our gathering!)
