Fear Not - We have a great line up for Friday Night - 5-8 PM 1 - Broadbent Vino Verde - $12 Rated 85 Points - Wine Spectator
A perfect wine to drink out of the bottle on the beach! It shows floral fruit, lime, and green freshness on the nose and palate. Overall, it's lightly fizzy and possessed of zippy acidity; you'll want to have a plate of shellfish on hand when you open this wine. Low in alcohol (just 9%), this sunny bottle is perfect for lunch outdoors, or as a gift for your favorite hostess. Fresh lime zest on the nose leads to ripe pear and toast flavors on the palate. This wine is not lacking in acidity by any means, but it is definitely a rounder example of Vinho Verde, making it just as good alone as it is with food.
Wine Spectator: "Tasting Highlights: White Wine Values" "This zesty white shows blood orange and fresh peach flavors. Light and spicy on the finish." If you are heading out to Abbot's, or Capt. Scott's, or to a friends house for a summer get together this is a perfect bottle to bring along. Or start a perfect evening and grab a bottle of the Broadbent and a box of Raincoast Crisp crackers, find a cheese that strikes your fancy - maybe one of our triple creams - and share it with someone special. Raincoast Crisps are crunchy, flavor-packed crackers handmade in small batches in Vancouver. Addictive varieties like rosemary raisin pecan, fig and olive, and salty date and almond have us hooked. I love the Fig and Olive. A perfect marriage of sweet and salty, crispy slices of artisan bread flavored with Kalamata olives and succulent Adriatic figs. Enjoy them on their own or paired with a soft cheese like chèvre, Brie or a good triple crème variety. 2 - Chiostro di Venere - $47 Rated 91 Points - Stephen Tanzer
"I wanted to make wine. I did it to remember the smells of my land, the real smells. I felt the need to return to the land and even to slow the pace of my life. I do not make wine for commercial reasons, the artist in this case is not me, but the wines themselves. If the wines are very much like me that is because they have a "rock" soul, just like mine." "I think," Nannini concluded, "that natural agriculture is indispensable, because the world and its resources are over exploited." Gianna Nannini - One of the legends of Italian music has, for several years, dedicated much time "with passion and culture" to the production of wine.
"Cabernet grapes take the upperhand in "Il Chiostro di Venere" ("Venus' Cloister"), mellowed with a light blend of Sangiovese. It has a commanding, permeating structure, with a superb taste balance. It surges boldly forward and fully envelopes the palate with its rare refinement." This is a treat - please try it Friday night.
Reminder for Friday June 29th - Our friends from RIPE will be here in the store shaking up glorious summer cocktails for you. If you have not tried these all natural, made in Connecticut, mixers you don't know what you are missing. Save the date.
3 - Sant Elena Savignon (Blanc) - $16 Rated 90 Points - Wine Spectator "While still fresh, this subtle white shows hints of lemon curd and nut accenting its yellow apple and candied orange peel notes, with a moderate finish. The integration of the acidity suggests that this is aging gracefully."
Italy tends to use the word "Sauvignon" to designate this varietal, not Sauvignon Bianco, as one might expect. This example comes from the northeastern region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, abutting Slovenia and the Adriatic Sea. Sporting a medium gold color, this full-bodied wine tilts toward the white melon/fig style of Sauvignon Blanc in the aromas, while the palate experiences pineapple, custard and citrus.
Suggested Food Pairings: Give it richness to counter the alcohol/heat. Seafood in creamy sauces over pasta; seafood lasagna; seafood terrine; seafood sausage in beurre blanc; vegetable terrine; vegetable timbale with lemon butter/herbs; vegetable quesadilla; chicken in a creamy sauce; pasta salad with smoked mozzarella, creamy dressing, garlic.
There will also be a nice selection of cheese to sample with our wines on Friday night. And if we think of any other goodies we will through them in too.
Thanks very much for all of your support - the summer season is going very well - and if you can believe it we have already been in our new location for just over a year. Thank you for all of the kind words and comments - we appreciate all of them.
We hope to see you on Friday Night
