Summer Cocktails
What To Drink Now

Who are we to argue with Mr. Redford?

Great Margaritas are what fuel the best memories of summer. Start with a couple of ounces of good agave tequila, silver or the lightly amber reposado varieties work fine. We like to add just a touch of Cointreau to make it special - but our secret ingredient is the newly discovered juice mixers from Ripe

They are all natural, made in Connecticut and absolutely delicious. You can try them here at the store anytime. We always have samples available.

THE CLASSIC RIPE AGAVE MARGARITA RECIPE

Before You Leave The Beach:

The Michelada
A sundown cocktail we discovered years ago in
Tulum Mexico, the Michelada fits best into that hour
or so before departing the beach for dinner.

It staves off the hunger pangs and helps soak up the day's final rays. Some like it with tomato juice or Worcestershire sauce, but for simplicity's sake, we've pared it down to the basics. You can mix this right in the bottle on the beach or a nice glass closer to home.

Michelada

12-ounce Pacifico or Modelo beer
Hot sauce
Lime wedges
Seasoning salt

At The Beach: Take one for the team and drink about three ounces of the beer from the bottle. Dash in desired amount of hot sauce and squeeze in several lime wedges. Toss the limes in, too, if the mood strikes. Stick a thumb in the neck of the beer, turn upside down to mix - Closer To Home: pour into a cold glass with ice and dash some seasoning salt over the top.  Trust me - it is surprisingly delicious.

1 - Jean Vincent Sancerre - $21
Rated 91 Points - Wine Spectator

Delicious with pork, poultry, fish, shellfish and goat's cheese.

Jean Vincent Sancerre

"With its brilliant green-gold color and elegant, rich nose of ripe lemons and grapefruit, this wine is very attractive on the palate, lightly minty with a great finish.

Today, the Chatelain winery has 30 hectares (74 acres) of vines in Pouilly-Fumé spread across six of the seven communes of the appellation. The grapes that go into Domaine Jean Vincent come from all the different types of soils found around Pouilly. This gives the Chatelain family a great deal of freedom when putting their blends together, and as a result, their wines are balanced and very typical of the appellation. This wine wins numerous awards for its style and quality." WS

Sip this with oysters, salads, and better cheeses. Savor the richness of 100% Sauvignon Blanc.

2 - Vincent Vatan Pouilly-Fumé Silex

Rated 90 Points - Wine Spectator - $24

Winemaker notes:

vincent vatan

"The grapes for this wine come from clay siliceous soils with flintstones... imparting the distinctive flintiness this wine is famous for.

Brilliant yellow-gold color and sharp, visceral nose, this wine is very characteristic of Pouilly-Fumé with a pronounced gunflint profile that is very typical of the Loire Valley soils."

Wine Drinker Notes:

"This type of wine releases the endorphins from deep within your brain - it would be hard to find a better example of Pouilly Fumé. Take a bottle or two of this on your next trip to Captain Scott's. Order the steamers, muscles, or lobster. This is a first class trip to France with every sip. Others may be drinking from bottles adorned with a Kangaroo but they won't be travling in your league."
