Wine & Cheese Tasting - Every Friday 5-8 p.m. - No Charge This Friday we welcome Ryan Connolly to our new diggs at 70 State Street he will be pouring from the Martin Scott portfolio of wines. Valentin Bianchi Pinot Noir - $14
In 1928, after a succession of entrepreneurial enterprises, Italian immigrant Valentin Bianchi realized his dream of owning a vineyard and small winery. First know as ''El Chiche,'' the winery produced a fine red wine that was once called ''Super Medoc.'' Today, Valentin Bianchi wines are appreciated by aficionados as well as the causal wine drinker, which is a testament to the hard work and efforts of the third generation. The grandsons of Valentin's Bianchi are keeping their grandfather's dream alive. Winemaker Notes The grapes are harvested by hand and go through classical fermentation including maceration with grape skin. The wine is aged in French and American oak barrels of 2nd and 3rd use for 6 months then stabilized, filtered and bottled. Food Pairing Notes This wine should be served at room temperature, and is the perfect choice for grilled steaks, grilled white fish, lamb and a variety of firm cheeses. Domaine Houchart Cotes de Provence Blanc - $12 Domaine Houchart is located at the foot of Mount St. Victoire near Aix en Provence. Domaine Houchart is today owned by Genevieve, the wife of Jerome Quiot, having been originally acquired by her great-grandfather. During the period of the1850's, Aurelien Houchart was an energetic proprietor and negociant in wine, and created one of the largest domaines in Provence. For the summer heat, wines like this are amazingly good for the money and go great with lighter summer fare. A great everyday wine to stock up on because they are so friendly to salads and grilled veggies. Falchini Vernacchia - $12 Vernaccia is one of Tuscany's great grapes. It produces a medium-bodied yet bright white wine that offers well-integrated citrus and orchard fruits with notes of dried herbs, roasted nuts and salty minerals adding complexity.
Winemaker's Notes
"Vernaccia di San Gimignano is Tuscany's premier white wine. It comes from the famous and ancient village of San Gimignano whose renaissance towers (one was measured by the height of one's tower, so to speak) were the skyscrapers of their day. The wine is made from a local grape called Vernaccia and tends to be soft and full with pleasant complimentary acidity." Falchini estate's 2009 version is crisp, dry and aromatic, with ripe citrus character.
