Rock Star Meets Cable Star
We all know that our own Dave Anderson gets around.
We've seem him driving for Ferrari, in a tux at The Tony Awards, on stage playing to full houses, and this past week we find him with the star of the Travel Channel's No Reservations - Anthony Bourdain.
Backstage at the Shubert Theater in New Haven - Dave caught up with Mr. Bourdain and passed along a few travel tips. Ask him about it on Friday night.
This week we are featuring wines that are inspired by his travels.
Riff Terra Alpina Pinot Grigio $10 This mineral-driven Pinot Grigio comes from the foothills of the Dolomites in northern Italy.
These spectacular vistas are now a UNESCO Heritage Site and probably should be on everyone's "Bucket List."
The name "Riff" is German for "Reef" - there is a deposit of fossilized seabeds under these vineyards...we might open one to accompany pan-seared flounder with olive oil, capers and sage? Incredibly this wine is priced under many others that do not offer half of the quality and wine making finesse that this wine does.
Mr. Bourdain traveled to this area while in Venice - just a "stone's throw" away.

Paul Mas GSM $16
From France's Languedoc.
Languedoc is a historic province in southern France, bordering the Mediterranean Sea on the south and the Rhône River in the east. MONTPELLIER and TOULOUSE have long been the leading cities.
The southern portion of the region, Bas (Lower) Languedoc, is composed of a low limestone plain, where almost half of all French wine is produced.
"GSM" stands for Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre.
Complex aromas of blackberries, violet and tobacco give way to spice and vanilla notes. Opulent and well-balanced with a sweet fruit mouthfeel and a rich, full-bodied toasted finish.

Vale do Bomfim Duoro Reserva $14 This hearty red hails from the region of the upper Douro in Portugal.
The wine is essentially unfortified Port, using the same Port varietals such as Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriza, Touriga Nacional, and Tinta Barroca.
The Symington family, of Warres and Grahams port , has been producing this wine for generations for their own consumption at the Port lodge, but have only recently begun exporting it to the American market.
