Hey - many of you know that City News hosts a weekly Lunchtime Jazz session every Wednesday from
12:00 - 2:00 p.m. it is free and open to the public with Gary Buttery & The Conn Men performing.
The group is led by Gary Buttery, the musical director of the Connecticut College Jazz Ensemble,
and features Mr. Mark Peele on the piano.
They are joined each Wednesday by a core group of session players, students, and visiting professionals - (you really should stop down to listen) - BUT What you may not know is how "connected" these kats are.
This Friday night they will be performing with New York recording artist John Fedchock, at Evans Hall on the campus of Connecticut College.

If you have never seen a performance at Evans Hall this is a great opportunity to visit the campus. There is PLENTY of parking and trust me - this is a Big City show and its right in our own back yard.
I suggest meeting your friends early for a little wine & a bite to eat with us - and then make your way up to the campus for a great night of music.

Clos des briords Muscadet 2007 $17 100% Muscadet from the western Loire Valley, fermented "sur lie" - that's a fancy way of saying they keep the wine in the barrel
(on the lees or sur lie) all winter, this allows the wine's aromas, body and texture to develop, and the carbonic gas produced by this process imparts a liveliness on the palate.
Only wines made from the best vineyards are permitted to use the Sur Lie designation. Absolutely perfect for seafood and shellfish.
Don Ramon Campo de Borja Red $8
(Bottles So Large They Are Incomprehensible)Uncle Don is our favorite affordable daily table red from Spain (note - back down to $8!).
Very much like an old-school Rioja - Tempranillo with a base of Grenache keeping it light and pretty. Aged in enormous old oak barrels, this is a surprisingly fantastic red.

Cruz de Piedra Estate Blend $30 This is a gorgeous!
Velvety Malbec blend from a very small producer - Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc - like an Argentinian "Bordeaux!"
Aged in French oak for 18 months - striking, balanced, with tons of fruit and a long finish, but still elegant and not too "hot," with an old-school alcohol content in the 13% range).
We immediately took to this gem and are not alone -
this bottling was awarded a gold medal at the London Wine
and Spirits Fair
this year.
