Greetings From New London, We have new arrival news, and a great line up for Friday, the list is just below these items of interest. In just a couple of weeks your door bells will be ringing and the annual ritual of greeting family and friends at your holiday table will mark another year. Some of you are already making preparations to honor family traditions. Looking for old recipes, ordering pies or turkeys from your secret purveyors - and there are probably a couple of you out there that are already brining their birds - and if you've ever brined your bird, you know how painful that can be.
Tradition and the family rituals that are tied to them are important. One such ritual is pushing the chair back from the table and sipping port over post dinner conversation - it helps you to remember just exactly why you only see some of these people just once a year. But I digress.
What you need to know is that The Vintage Ports have arrived. 1 - Dow LBV 2004 $26/btl
2 - Dow's Vintage Porto 2003 $95/btl 3 - Dow's Vintage Porto 1994 $110/bt
PURE AFTER-DINNER PLEASURE Something special to sip with Stilton, nuts, or maybe just one more slice of pie. The 1994 vintage was one of the century's best. Winemaker's notes:
It balances opulent red fruits with mineral and eucalyptus tones and has the Dow's characteristic drier finish. Its great depth and structure make it delicious now but it will also continue to age in the bottle for years to come. Declared Vintage Port is made only in the best of the best years and represents less than two percent of all Port made. It is sourced from Dow's top vineyards, primarily Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira and aged for two years in barrel before bottling.
Our Serving and pairing suggestions: Vintage Port needs to be decanted since it is aged in bottle. Serve it in a glass with at least a six ounce capacity so that you may appreciate the wine's aromas. Vintage Port is best served with creamy blue cheeses such as Point Reyes Original Blue or a fine Stilton or Roquefort. Once opened it should be consumed within a few days.
"Deep garnet color. The nose is just beginning to evolve into musky, dried plum and raisin aromas with whiffs of tree bark, nutmeg, cumin and cloves. The palate is seriously big and voluptuous with medium to high acidity and a medium to firm level of fine tannins. Very long finish."

Wine Tasting Friday November 5th 6-9 p.m. - No Charge
Baguala Torrontes $8 This crisp white has caught on as a "grab-n-go" special upstairs.
It has a very easy drink-ability that pairs well with most foods and cheese.
The wine has more body, acidity and depth than the other bargain Torrontes you've grown to know and love, still with the unmistakable wildflower nose only found in Argentina's signature white grape. Dona Paula Los Cardos Malbec $10 There's a lot going on in this low-priced Malbec from the esteemed Dona Paula estates. Malbec, along with zinfandel and often syrah, is thought of as a blue-collar grape. It's always a bit edgy, with a good grip of tannins that never let it become too polished or formal.
Los Cardos makes a textbook version of this grape with loads of fresh, brambly, black-fruit aromas and flavors that are mingled in with notes of spices and herbs - plus just enough of those tannins to maintain an edge.
Grapes are sourced from the area of Luyan de Cuyo at over 3,000 feet elevation. Aromas of red and black fruits, berries spices and cigar box. A round red with enough tannins to shape the bright fruity character.Serve it with grilled root vegetables, chops, steaks or chickens. And be sure to try it on Friday night.
Paul Mas Estate Carignan $14 From Paul Mas in France's Languedoc, this red has been overlooked in favor of the GSM from the same estates - a very interesting bottling of straight Carignan.
A full-bodied, rich and mellow wine, with delicious velvety tannins and complex flavors. Jean-Claude Mas has blazed the trail for premium winemaking in the Languedoc region of the South of France. Since taking the helm of the centuries-old Domaines Paul Mas in 2000, his driving mission has been to use only premium quality grapes to craft superior wines with a modern, New World flair.
Above all else, this innovative, fourth-generation vintner strives to make wines with authenticity and refinement, the end result of which is a family of magnificently charming wines that burst with personality and express their unique terroir. Slightly lighter-bodied than the GSM, light tannins give way to flavors of blackberry, cocoa and liquorice. A terrific food wine, perfect with roasted chicken thighs, duck or turkey.JUST IN
Get It While You Can
This is one of the most requested wines we offer. It goes quickly and many feel that it is magic in a bottle. Grab it now for the holidays - when it is gone - it is gone.
WINEMAKER NOTES: "The coveted Phantom, Bogle's apparition of three unique varietals, combines lush berry and fierce spice into a wine of complex character. Vivid essence of black pepper, dark fruit and juniper haunts the nose, while brighter flavors of blackberries and blueberries glance off the palate. From the shadows, toasty cinnamon and nutmeg emerge, subtly embracing the deeply luscious and succulent fruit to create a full-bodied, ruby rich wine. Captured in 1, 2 and 3 year old American oak barrels, this wine showcases the best these distinct varietals have to offer. Though the wine is remarkable now, age in the bottle will only integrate the three varietals more. Welcome the winery ghost into your home again with this latest vintage, and enjoy with full-flavored and hearty meals...before it vanishes again."
