Greetings From New London,
One of the most asked questions that we get is: "When are the new chocolates coming in?"
Well - they have arrived - the case is full. Every type of shape, size and color that one might imagine. But they do go quickly. Stop in or call we can deliver them to your front door.
The Moonstruck Story:
"In 1993, a simple but remarkable concept took root in Portland, Oregon.
That concept was to handcraft superior chocolates - chocolates that
would not only taste exquisite, but that would look exceptional, as
well. The result would be a chocolate indulgence for all the senses. From that initial idea grew Moonstruck Chocolatier, where to this day we
still handcraft each piece, using only the finest ingredients. We pair
our own decadent chocolate with fresh flavors found in the Pacific
Northwest and beyond, and then hand-decorate each piece with intricate
care."

Friday September 24th 6-9 p.m. - No Charge
Otto's Constant Dream (OCD) Sauvignon Blanc $14 This gem from Marlborough, New Zealand has established a cult following since we first poured it in the spring. It is well worth consideration: a lovely citrus start then a briny finish with a touch of grassy herbal tones and tropical fruit.
The importer claims it has an 'everybody Wang Chung tonight lemon/lime freshness' - we don't really know what that means, but it makes us uneasy.
How about: "Trademark Kiwi Sauv Blanc without the price hike!" We would put this up against Cloudy Bay in a brown bag any day.
Paul Mas Estate G.S.M. $16
Each Grape Plucked By Hand? We've sampled a few Paul Mas wines in the last few weeks, and this GSM (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre) is the favorite over at the wine store. Estate bottled and individually numbered (at this price?) Coteaux du Languedoc from the South of France.
The unique glacial soil in the region consists almost solely of granite pebbles, giving the wine a backbone similar in character to the Rhones of the Perrin family further north. Spicy, rich and unmistakably French.
Rocca delle Macie Chianti Classico $16
The Family Zingarelli This is made by a family - not in a boardroom. And it shows. Every sip delivers authentic hospitality - it's as if we were sitting at the dinner table with the Zingarelli's on a Sunday afternoon not worrying whether or not to have the third glass that is being poured.
This is a very user-friendly Chianti - not tongue-pickling but retaining that Northern Tuscan zing - then dissolving into luxurious dark fruit and licorice.
Here's a LOL moment from the winemaker: "This ruby red is entirely composed of grapes..." Indeed, Sangiovese grapes with 5% touches of Canaiolo and Merlot. A lovely DOC Chianti at a very table-friendly price.
Dave recommends simmering Orsini garlic sausage in wine, San Marzano tomatoes, mushrooms and capers. Serve with pasta, apply liberal amounts of Parmesan and Chianti - gasp - then repeat.

We really appreciate all of the comments about the increasing inventories that we are bringing in as the season begins to change.
We were the first to introduce this - It is hard to find. But we have it in stock - If you enjoy fine spirits you must try this.
The Real Deal
TIME MAGAZINE: "January 14, 2008 "Local Spirits. A new breed of mom and pop
distilleries is bringing a modern flavor to the old craft of
moonshining"
We see this as being about creating a high-end product and also as a new way of providing revenue for small farms."
Like
generations of farmers before them, Ralph Erenzo and Brian Lee keep a
still at their Hudson Valley granary and use it to concoct a corn
bourbon with a smooth creamy flavor and sweet grainy aroma that would
make any moonshiner proud. But what Erenzo and Lee are making isn't the
illegal stuff of mountain legend and bootlegger capers; instead it's
high-class hooch that is totally legal and helping lead a renaissance of
handcrafted artisanal American spirits.
Bring on the cooler weather.
Please Join Us - it's fun, informal, and a great
way to start your weekend.
