Picpoul de Pinet Coteaux du Languedoc $12
Better known here simply as "Picpoul" or "that green bottle," we are happy to welcome back an old summer favorite.
Picpoul is one of the oldest known varietals grown in the Languedoc, tailored over centuries to the abundant seafood of France's Mediterranean coast.
Fresh, citrusy and floral, with a light mineral balance. Perfect with grill-opened oysters and clams, fish skewers or lobster bisque.
Pierre Amadieu Cotes du Rhone $14
Here's a newly discovered pearl for you Cotes-du-Rhone fans - from Pierre Amadieu who specializes in the wines of the lower Rhone valley near Gigondas.
Hand-harvested Grenache and Syrah from stony clay and limestone soils, Pierre describes his winemaking style as "Burgundian" in that he creates unmanipulated wines expressing the land with balance and finesse.
Pleasant fruity aromas of blackberries and plums, opening up to a slightly liquorice finish.
Valle Dell'Acate Cerasuolo di Vittoria $18
This gem from Sicily took a big price break, maybe because nobody knows what it is.
The perfect candidate for a tasting! (We didn't know either, but didn't care after a sip). A spicy, robust Mediterranean profile, with lots of tannin and structure.
70% Nero d'Avola and $30 Frappato from a small farming cooperative.
They say this wine can age 30 years, but we don't see the point when you could open it with grilled lamb chops tomorrow!
