I have never been to an SCBWI conference. What is the polite way to approach an editor or agent?
Don't hand them anything like your manuscript (MS) and do not discuss your MS unless asked. Click here to see an excellent handout from the SCBWI Rocky Mountain Region that gives some suggestions. Click download and then print the page to read the document. ______________________________________________________________ I signed up for the Picture Book Session. Can I attend a program in the Main Session?
At this time, once you sign up for MAIN or PICTURE BOOK, you must attend the programs within that unique session. We are limited in the number of people per session and the Fire Marshall requirements for the room occupancy. So at this time, we can not accommodate floating between the Main and Picture Book session.
What if something happens last minute and I am unable to attend the conference?
We are unable to give refunds. Cancellations prior to Oct. 15 will receive a credit voucher. After Oct. 15, credits wil not be issued. _________________________________________________________________________ I need to leave early and would like to get my critique when I leave. Please give us a large self addressed stamped envelope and we will mail your critique to you. Once again, the critiques are written.
I need accommodations for handicapped use. Are there any?
Mills College is handicapped accessible. The lunch cafeteria is a 15 minute walk and up a steep small hill. If you would like a lift to the cafeteria, please notify Colette, mvpurpleleaf@yahoo.com, or Margaret, books4women@yahoo.com.
Can I bring a friend or my children (who will be very quiet.)
Friends will need to pay the registration fee. We do not provide childcare and children under the age of 16 are not eligible to attend due to insurance considerations.
I am not a PAL SCBWI member but have had a book published recently. May I still participate in the Bookstore and Author Signing event.
No, you must be a PAL SCBWI member to participate. These are the guidelines defined by SCBWI national headquarters. Go to our link directly on the Conference Bookstore and Author Signing to find out how to become a PAL member.
Will the lunch have gluten-free options?
We will be eating in the cafeteria that serves the students. They have many, many choices which include all the dietary considerations.
