AFRICAN DRUMMING SKILLS

The community news website has created a column called First Impressions - where an image of artwork is posted each week and readers respond by writing comments about what the work means to them. At the end of the week, the artist posts what they were thinking when they created the piece. Click on the title above to see the first installment featuring local photographer Meryl Spiegel's Scissored, from her Phantoms series. Patch is looking for artists to participate. All you need is a jpg of an image of your work (size: at least 72 dpi, at least 6 x 6 inches) and a paragraph describing what you were thinking when you created the artwork. Artist-in-Residence Opportunity The Center for Book Arts is pleased to continue the Artist-in-Residence Workspace Grant for New York Emerging Artists program in 2013. Up to five New York-based emerging artists will be offered space, time and support to explore the production and exhibition of artist's books and related work in year-long residencies. The purpose of this program is to promote experimentation in making book art, thus artists from all disciplinary backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Call for Artists: Art League of Long Island's 57th Annual Member's Exhibition  The Art League of Long Island is accepting applications for their 57th Member's Exhibition at the League's Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery in Dix Hills. Artists who are not currently members are invited to join as members when submitting applications. Registration form and $30 fee must be received by October 22, 4PM. Exhibition juror Judith Levy is the Director of Gallery North in Setauket. CALL FOR ARTISTS Applications now being accepted for the 2013 Golden Foundation Residency Program The Sam & Adele Golden Foundation for the Arts announced today that applications are now being accepted for its 2013 residency program. Through its residency program, the Golden Foundation provides artists a one-of-a-kind opportunity to explore the widest, most innovative range of materials and technology available today for the professional artist working with paint. Located in the beautiful rolling hills of central New York and just several hundred yards from the Golden Artist Colors manufacturing facility, the Golden Foundation Residency is housed in a 19th century dairy barn which has been transformed into a 21st century artist residency, with large studio spaces and private apartments. CALL FOR ARTISTS: 10 x 10 Show at The South Street Gallery Stop by The South Street Gallery in Greenport and pick up a complimentary 10x10 cradled birch plywood board for our sixth annual 10x10=100 Art Show and Sale to benefit The North Fork Environmental Council. CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Poetry Chapbook Competition The Center for Book Arts invites submissions to its annual Poetry Chapbook Competition. The deadline for the 2013 competition is December 1, 2012. The winning manuscript will be chosen in the spring of 2013 and will be awarded with the publication of a beautifully designed, letterpress-printed, limited-edition chapbook printed and bound by artists at the Center for Book Arts. The edition is limited to 100 signed and numbered copies, ten of which are reserved for the author and the remainder of which will be offered for sale through the Center. The winning poet will also receive a cash award of $500, and a $500 honorarium for a reading, to be held at the Center in the fall of 2013, as well as an exclusive opportunity to stay at the Millay Colony for the Arts in Austerlitz, New York as one of their Winter Shakers. Group for the East End Seeking Volunteer Photographers Volunteers are needed to photograph the Group's environmental educators in action during classroom and field trip lessons.
