Featuring Grammy Winner & Pulitzer Prize Nominee Joel Thome

Join Grammy winning musician and Pulitzer Prize nominee Joel Thome, a stroke survivor, for this fascinating, powerful and heartfelt presentation, discussing powerful effects that music and art can have as forms of therapy. After suffering a debilitating stroke in 1998, Joel lost the use of his left arm and was forced to undergo years of recovery. Using music as a resource for healing, he was able to resume composing and returned to the stage to perform his graphically notated mandala scores. Thome will screen portions of the film Inside the Perfect Circle: The Odyssey of Joel Thome which documents the remarkable journey of this world-traveled composer and conductor. This FREE event is open to the public.

The GOLDEN Artist Colors lecture/demo is a two-hour presentation on acrylic paints, gels and mediums. Learn how you can extend paint and create unique textural surfaces. Explore Grounds that create surfaces for watercolors, graphite, charcoal, pencil, pastels and silverpoint. The lecture also covers OPEN, a slow-drying acrylic paint; Digital Mixed Media products that allow you to merge digital printing with paint; and the lightfast properties of pigments, proper acrylic priming techniques, and health and safety concerns.
