Papunya Dot Painting (Acrylic)
Saturday, June 23, 10AM - 1PM
Instructor: Daniel Brazil
This painting style arose from the Papunya art movement in the 1970s. Papunya Tula artists of Australia used a process which originally mirrored traditional spiritual ceremonies of the aboriginal people of the western desert. Aboriginal paintings are highly decorative and emotive; incorporating an innovative balance of traditional and modern techniques. The dot technique creates a visually intriguing texture and offers a sense of movement and rhythm causing the flat canvas to teem with energy and life unlike any other style of painting. During the lecture portion we will critique and discuss some actual dot paintings; as well as examine the Aborigine people's customs associated with this art. During the practical portion we will create acrylic paintings that mirror this style. All ages are welcome. This workshop is an excellent opportunity for parents and their children to share in a rich creative experience.
Cost: $36 EEA members / $54 non-members

PHOTOGRAPHY: MAKE YOUR CAMERA DO THE WORK

SATURDAY, June 23, 10AM - 12PM

Additional topics to be explored will be: content, composition, selecting lenses, vibration reduction systems, camera focus, preventing camera shake and light sources. Jim will also share some tips and techniques on how go from simply taking pictures to how to make pictures. Learn how to see the light and control the light, and how creative composition can improve your photography.

TYPOGRAPHY:
THE LOOK OF WORDS
Saturday, June 30,
10:30AM - 2:30PM

Instructor: Etta Siegel
In this workshop, professional graphic designer/educator Etta Siegel will give you an entertaining entry to the world of typography, show some outstanding work, and maybe inspire a few type aficionados (called typophiles). At the very least, you will start noticing all the typography around you and leave knowing the difference between Bodoni and Helvetica.
Cost: $40 EEA members / $60 non-members

Solo Art Exhibit featuring Jerry Schwabe

Ashawagh Hall, East Hampton

Jerry Schwabe, an East End resident, will exhibit his paintings and sculpture in an upcoming "Solo" show at Ashawagh Hall. Opening reception: Saturday, June 30, 5-8PM. Jerry's new work moves from the serene to the dramatic with variations in mood and abstractions of form and color. Jerry paints for "the eyes and the soul" and his soft muted colors in many of his beach scenes reflect a sense of calmness and serenity. Contrastingly, some of his new paintings are full of vibrant bursts of unexpected color pairings. The show runs from Friday, June 29 through Sunday, July 1. Hours: Friday, June 29, 3PM-7PM; Saturday, June 30, 12PM-8PM; Sunday, July 1, 12PM-4PM. For more information, visit www.jerryschwabe.com or contact jerry@jerryschwabe.com.
