Public Printing Demonstration

Master printmaker, painter, teacher and author Dan Welden will be conducting a public demonstration of his working process. Dan Welden is the originator of a printmaking technique called the Solarplate method, and is an innovator at the forefront of the alternative health- and safety- oriented movement of printmaking. During his 40-year career as an artist and master printmaker, he has shown his work in more than 70 solo exhibits and over 500 group exhibitions across the United States and abroad.

This workshop is designed for parents of children in the performing arts and for adult performers; a practical, intensive workshop that covers a detailed "anatomy & physiology" of the performing arts industry, and GETTING THE MOST MILEAGE FOR YOUR INVE$TMENT. This is the perfect course for those who are planning a career as performers, the professional who is seeking the edge to break into the next level or those who are considering their possibilities. Mature children/teens are encouraged to attend with Parent(s).

ABSTRACT PAINTING FOR ADULTS: LEVEL II
Saturday, April 28, 10AM-3PM
Instructor: Maria Macedonia-Ritter
For students of all levels and experience, these workshops revisit the history of abstract art while analyzing several influential paintings. The courses function as independent workshops, or as a series. Students of all levels and experience will gain confidence and a more comprehensive understanding of what makes an abstract piece successful. A variety of painting applications, styles, and subjects will be explored. Students will create several paintings in a medium of their choice, and will be encouraged to abstract from their own representational works by analyzing and synthesizing their compositions.
Cost: $60 EEA members / $90 non-members

Riverhead's own abstract artist and Hollywood screenwriter Tina Andrews (Warner Bros.' "Why Do Fools Fall In Love") is exhibiting her paintings at the Central Islip Public Library in an evocative new show called "Life In The Abstract." The exhibit runs from April 1 through May 1, 2012. At the reception, meet & greet the artist, and discuss her current career in Hollywood, her upcoming Broadway play, and her art, which has been described as "Vibrant and moving..." Ms. Andrews will also sign and giveaway copies of her latest novel "Charlotte Sophia: Myth, Madness and the Moor," to the first 40 people. A concert to benefit Katy's Courage Fund & Pediatric Cancer Research. A community of student musicians coming together to celebrate the life Katy Stewart, who lost her battle to a rare form of liver cancer at 12 years young, but not before she had captured the hearts of so many in the community. Performances by: Maxfield Panish, violin; Leo Panish, violin; Chris Beroes-Haigis, cello; Emmanuelle Benard, piano; Emily Verneuille, clarinet; Benjamin Pereira, violin; Grant Kusick, guitar; Ella Patrick, piano; and special guest Nathaniel Sassoon, piano and voice. Suggested Donation: $10. All proceeds go to Katy's Courage Fund, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to education and support for families and children through scholarships, support for counseling, and pediatric cancer research.

for Upcoming EEA Gallery Show
 
Found ObjectsAny items that are old or unused, lost or found, are being collected at the EEA Gallery for artists to choose from and incorporate into a work of art for this summer's "Found Objects" Show - items will be used to create a piece of art. Artists are invited to choose from the collection of items at the Gallery to create their pieces.

 

Items can be dropped-off during EEA Gallery hours:

EEA's First National Art Competition: JOY 
Art about despair is everywhere. Artists are encouraged to swing to the opposite extreme
for the artwork entered into this show. Two-Dimensional media only. Artists may enter up to three works for $45. The EEA Gallery will be accepting entries on CD only. Submission deadline: CD entries must be received by June 30, 2012. Guest jurors are Peter J. PROMOTE YOUR WORK Patch.com is offering an exciting FREE publicity opportunity for artists. The community news website has created a column called First Impressions - where an image of artwork is posted each week and readers respond by writing comments about what the work means to them. At the end of the week, the artist posts what they were thinking when they created the piece. Open Call to Artists for Water Mill Museum's 20th Annual Members' Art Show The Water Mill Museum will hold its 20th Annual Members' Art Show from June 14 through July 9, 2012.  All artists are invited to submit works. Artists join the museum, at a nominal fee, to participate in the exhibition, for show and/or for sale. The Museum will accept submissions in all mediums including oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, mixed media, graphics, photography, and sculpture. Crafts will not be considered. The exhibition is a non-juried show and is limited to one piece per artist. Artist-in-Residence Program in Orient, NY The William Steeple Davis Trust of Orient, Long Island is now accepting applications for an artist-in-residence for the period of October 15, 2012 through October 1, 2013. Applications are due by June 30, 2012.  The William Steeple Davis Trust artist-in-residence program was established in 1976 under the will of Mr. Davis to "provide a temporary place of abode for persons of good character who are or have been actively engaged in cultural professions, particularly in the arts, and who are without adequate funds to provide for such accommodations." Past residents' endeavors have included painting, photography, writing, sculpting, poetry and music. The house and studio are in a quiet location within sight of Orient Harbor.
