July 2012

Greetings!

There are several causes of stress in the workplace, from heavy workloads and deadlines to demanding customers and clients. There are serious side effects from long term stress that can impact your health, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol and digestive issues. Besides the physical impact, stress also takes a toll mentally, through mood swings, anxiety and depression.

Both the physical and mental ailments of stress also impact your company's health as well. Studies show that the number of doctor visits were 26% higher for those in high stress jobs. This could lead to missed time at work and lower productivity. For a few tips on minimizing stress, please read on.
REDUCE STRESS AND GET ORGANIZED BY MINIMIZING E-MAIL DISTRACTIONS
Damian Dinan, Client Development Specialist

Hospitality Career InstituteWe've all had those days, all is seemingly quiet. You've tackled most of your urgent tasks. All of your forms, reports and spreadsheets have been updated. Your e-mail box is empty ... well relatively. Now it's time for that 10:00 a.m. staff meeting.

That's when the avalanche starts. The phone calls and e-mails pour into your office; requests from clients, co-workers and colleagues, as well as the spam that somehow makes its way through. It's like they knew you weren't going to be available.  By the time your meeting ends you have 30 new e-mail messages and several other voice mail messages to review.

According to The Radicati Group, "The average corporate worker spends a quarter of his/her work day on various e-mail related tasks. In comparison, the time spent in personal meetings accounts for about 14%....and phone conversations occupy only 9% of the typical day."  That's a tremendous amount of time being devoted to messages. And it is only going to get worse.  Worldwide e-mail traffic is estimated to increase from 247 billion messages a day in 2009 to 507 billion in 2013 (The Radicati Group).

In the marketplace today, individuals are under constant pressure to perform. Our clients and customers expect an instantaneous response and demand more for less. Technology reinvents something new every day, which adds to these expectations. <READ MORE>
