Business in Motion
The opportunity for community banks to reap rewards from their competition is declining. Many banking experts now project a turnaround in our economy beginning in the 4th Quarter of this year. News headlines already show profit improvement among some BIG BANKS. This means on the local market level the opportunity for the smaller banks to take business from their large bank competitors is DECLINING.

Please consider mounting an aggressive new business program NOW - before it is too late and will cost you much, much more and probably won't be effective.

Capturing Generation Y Prospects
PNC Financial Services is attracting 130 new customers a day to an account that pays only mediocre returns. The online product is called "Virtual Wallet." It is three accounts - dubbed "Spend," "Reserve", and "Growth" all linked together. PNC says it has signed up over 20,000 so far, 65% of them new and 79% Gen Y folks. Current customers are keeping above-average balances. Business Week

Banks Missing Opportunity to Differentiate Themselves
Man with cup of coffee
With consumer confidence at its' low point virtually no banks are trying to help customers deal with the recession personal issues. Some banks 'say' there are there to help individuals solve their financial problems but they really are there to sell something to do this. What they aren't doing is offering ways or information web sites that can help a variety of consumers solve their financial issues. One bank, Wells Fargo, has made a big step in that direction with their web page: www.handsonbanking.org/en/. Capital Performance Group Jan. 09
How to Say "NO" on Loan to Good Bank Customer
Man with cup of coffee
One bank is trying this approach to avoid totally negative feelings when a good customer asks for a loan but doesn't qualify under the more strict guidelines. The banker suggests the customer contact a consultant, who is often a former bank loan officer, and see if the borrower's financials can be re-arranged and thereby qualify for the loan.

Idiot Sighting
"I live in a semi-rural area. We recently had a new neighbor call the local township administrative office to request the removal of the "Deer Crossing" sign on our road. The reason: 'Too many deer are being hit by cars out here! I don't think this is a good place for them to be crossing anymore.'" Kingman, KS
