China Tour CitiesPYSO is Going to China!

The Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra will be touring China in June 2008.   As musical ambassadors of Pittsburgh, PYSO will be performing in the finest concert halls of Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong - as well as the Great Wall of China! The two-week tour promises to be a once in a lifetime musical and cultural experience for these talented young musicians.

It is our goal that PYSO continues to include the finest student musicians in the Pittsburgh area, regardless of their ability to afford the costs of an overseas tour.  The cost of the tour to the students is substantial and many of our students will need scholarship assistance.  We ask you to consider making a donation that will be designated specifically to the China Tour or to the China Tour Scholarship Fund. You can donate online with your credit card.

PYSO students themselves are also working to defray the cost of their trip through a project sponsored by the PYSO Parents Association.  The Painted Violins and Other Intriguing Instruments raffle features over a dozen instruments decorated by local Pittsburgh artists.  You can view these artistic projects and purchase tickets through the PYSO website.  From now through the end of January, 80% of the raffle ticket proceeds will go directly to the account of the PYSO student whose name is on the ticket as the ticket beneficiary.

We hope that you will join in this effort to provide an unparalleled experience to our outstanding student musicians.

This is a fascinating and unique project sponsored by the PYSO Parents' Association is to help young musicians raise funds for their 2008 concert tour to China. The drawing will take place during the May 3, 2008 PYSO concert at Heinz Hall.  All proceeds will benefit the members of the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Local artists used oil paints, acrylics, decoupage and various materials to decorate violins and other donated instruments that were no longer playable. The instruments will be displayed at concerts throughout the 2007-08 season and the drawing will be held on May 3, 2008 at Heinz Hall.

Follow this link to see a color brochure of the instruments and other raffle items.

Tickets are $5 for 1, $10 for 3, $15 for 5, $20 for 7, and $25 for 10.  They are available from PYSO members, parents, and staff. Raffle tickets can also be purchased online. The ticket buyer can designate, if desired, which orchestra member should benefit from the ticket sales.  This way, students can raise a significant amount of money toward their tour fee.
