Cornucopia
CORNUCOPIA OF SOUND

Members of PYSO and their Music Director Daniel Meyer will kick off the 2007-2008 season with a celebration of fall in "Cornucopia of Sound." The program includes Copland's festive El Salon Mexico  and one of Richard Strauss' most famous tone poems, Tod und Verklarung, or Death and Transfiguration. PYSO welcomes PSO Associate Principal Cellist, David Premo, as he joins them in performing Lalo's classic Cello Concerto.

Join PYSO in helping the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank by bringing a canned or boxed food item donation to the concert (please no glass items). Collection boxes will be located at the front entrance to the concert hall.

Tiffany Concert Series

Tiffany WindowsSelect chamber music groups from PYSO are being invited to perform on the Tiffany Concert Series on Sunday, October 28 at 4:00 PM. The concert will take place at Calvary Methodist Church on the North Side.  Sponsored and presented by the Allegheny Historic Preservation Society, proceeds from this concert will help to defray the cost of restoring and maintaining the original Tiffany windows in this historic landmark church.

If you are a current member of PYSO and play with other  PYSO members in a chamber music ensemble, and you would like to participate in this concert, please contact Executive Director Craig Johnson.

And Other Intriguing Instruments

The PYSO Parents Association is moving ahead on their fundraiser for PYSO's tour to China, called "Painted Violins and Other Intriguing Instruments".

Local artists will use oil paints, acrylics, or decoupage to decorate violins and other donated instruments that are no longer playable. The instruments will be displayed at concerts throughout the 2007-08 season and the drawing will be held on May 3, 2008 at Heinz Hall.

Tickets are $5 for 1, $10 for 3, $15 for 5, $20 for 7, and $25 for 10, and they will be available from PYSO members, parents, and staff. The ticket buyer can designate, if desired, which orchestra member should benefit from the ticket sales.  This way, students can raise a significant amount of money toward their tour fee.

Watch for more information on "Painted Violin and Other Intriguing Instruments"!
