Joint Finance Committee Wraps Up Its Work

After several marathon, late-night sessions late last week, the powerful Joint Committee on Finance wrapped up its work by passing its version of the 2011-13 biennial budget by a 12 to 4 margin with all the Republicans on the Committee voting for their measure and all of the Democrats voting against it.

The Committee worked on the biennial budget for the past two months. The budget now heads to the full legislature where it will be debated thoroughly and separately by the Republican-led Assembly and Senate. It is expected that the legislature will begin its debate on the Joint Finance's version of the budget the week of June 13 and potentially getting the $60 billion-plus spending bill to the Governor's desk before the 4th of July.

The end of the 2009-11 biennial budget is June 30.
