Joint Committee on Finance Continues Its Work this Week 

This week, the Joint Committee on Finance enters its fourth week of work on the  Governor's  2011-13 biennial budget. The 16-member, GOP-controlled, bipartisan, bicameral budget writing committee is scheduled to meet to work on the budget only one day this week on this Thursday, May 12.   

 

Speculation continues that the Committee will be done with its work just prior to the Memorial Day Recess.

Legislature Back in Session this Week  

Both the Senate and Assembly will be session this week with busy calendars. One of the more high profile issues the Assembly will consider legislation that expands the Milwaukee School Choice Program by removing the enrollment cap on the program.   Also, both the Senate and Assembly are expected to also consider voter ID legislation this week, which could lead to a contentious debate.  

 

Senate Tentative Calendar for Tuesday, May 10

The full Senate will consider the appointment of Former State Representative Phil Montgomery of Green Bay to the Public Service Commission.

 

Bills to be considered:

SJR-22. Badger Women's Hockey (Risser) Honors UW-Madison's women's hockey team.

SJR-24. Meghan Duggan (Risser) Commends Meghan Duggan as the recipient of the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award.

SJR-27. UW Basketball (Risser) Commends UW-Madison men's basketball team.

SB-20. Milwaukee Schools (Darling) Authorizes the City of Milwaukee to sell city-owned property used for school purposes.

SB-26. Interstate Bridges (Harsdorf) Removes requirement for federal funding before proceeding with certain aspects of building Stillwater Bridge.

SB-50. Wind Energy Rules (JCRAR) Wind energy rules.

SB-59. Piers/Wharves (Kedzie) ) Extends the deadline for registration of grandfathered piers to April 1, 2012.

SB-62. Bass Tournaments (Moulton) Culling of bass in fishing tournaments.

SB-72. Bear Hunting (Moulton) Privileges under Class A or Class B bear hunting license.

AB-2. Enterprise Zone (Rivard) Authorizes designation of an additional enterprise zone; requires designation of enterprise zones in rural areas.
