Joint Committee on Finance Wraps Up Hearings around State

This week, the Joint Committee on Finance wrapped up its hearings around the state on the Governor's  2011-13 biennial budget.

The bipartisan, bicameral budget writing committee held hearings in West Allis and Neenah this week to conclude its two weeks of hearings around the state.  In all, the Committee held hearings in Stevens Point, Superior, West Allis and Neenah and received testimony from hundreds of residents around the state on various topics ranging from concerns regarding K-12 education, recycling funding, shared revenue, UW System funding, the impacts of the Governor's budget repair bill and BadgerCare funding.

Joint Finance Committee Co-Chair Alberta Darling (R-River Hills) commented after the hearing this week that the Republican-led Committee will take the next six weeks to review and take executive action on the budget and complete the budget in June so "communities can have certainty," (www.thewheelerreport.com).

Spring Election Update - AP Declares Prosser Victorious

Justice David Prosser was declared victorious late Friday by the Associated Press (AP) in the highly contested, state-wide race for the State's Supreme Court.

According to the AP, Prosser was declared the victor after the last county - Milwaukee County - completed its official canvass late Friday afternoon. The final results showed Prosser winning re-election by a total of 7,316 votes over his opponent State Assistant Attorney General Joanne Kloppenburg.
