The Sippican Lands Trust, Inc. is a non-profit organization founded in 1974 for the acquisition, management and protection of natural areas in Marion.  The ultimate goal of the Trust is to protect wildlife, ecosystems and natural resources as well as the history, heritage and beauty of the area.  Open land not only provides us with a sense of tranquility and pleasure now, but the protection of this land is our legacy for future generations.

Steward's Station
Our section dedicated to recent news relating to stewardship.

If you have ever wondered what our "stewards" do, here is a perfect example.  Earlier this month, the osprey nest at Peirson Woods fell during a wind storm.  The platform rotted over time and needed to be replaced.  With the family's pending arrival, a new nest was needed.

After constructing the new nest and lower the old telephone pole, the pole and nest needed to be raised again.  Alan and Jessica Harris, Jessica and Phil Whittaker, and Marty Howell hoisted the pole back up (and managed now to hurt themselves or the children in the process).

The nest was raised just in time.  Rumor has it, that our osprey family has moved in to their new and improved home.

If you are interested in becoming a steward or helping SLT on trail or preserve work, please contact us.  We'd love to have you.

Peirson Woods is one of SLT's most visited preserves.  Located at the corner of Point and Allen's Point Roads.
