Art: the perfect boyfriend?

Considering Valentine's Day is right around the corner, this week we discuss one of the many relationships between art and love: brain chemistry.

According to a 2011 study at University College London, staring at art produces the same response in the huma
n brain as gazing at a loved one.

Subjects in the study were shown a series of paintings.  Researchers found that when subjects viewed beautiful paintings there was an increase in blood flow to the medial orbitofrontal cortex, the part of the brain associated with pleasure and desire.

Read more about the study here:

Most of us art lovers know this phenomenon to be true from personal experience, but now there is scientific research to back up our claims of feeling happy, inspired or calmed by our favourite paintings.

Consider this when shopping for your next Valentine's gift.
Diamonds may be forever, but art reminds you of your boyfriend.

geese
art for your heart

Did you know that Canada geese mate for life?

At two years old, a Canada goose chooses a mate and the pair form a family bond that lasts for the rest of their lives.

The mother and father geese work together to protect and nourish their young until they are ready to go off on their own.

The gallery features lovely goose sculptures by Tony Curley. Put two together and they form a heart.  Perfect!
