Clean freaks shouldn't be painting conservators

It's not often that there's a scandal in the field of conservation. Thanks to my mom for pointing out this one to me:  


It seems that the conservation committee at the Louvre was so divided about the techniques used to clean Da Vinci's
The Virgin and Child with St. Anne, that two of the most respected conservators resigned.

Restoring artwork requires a good dose of respect for the painting, the history of a piece, as well as a respect for its caretakers. A good conservator has to balance cleaning and repairing a piece so that it looks brand new with preserving all the fingerprints, stains and imperfections that are part of the piece's
 
Our conservator is wonderful at respecting both our clients' wishes and the integrity of the artwork we bring him. He is well respected in his field and has worked with the Canadian Conservation Institute to ensure that Ontario's museums and galleries are up to par with conservation practices.

Etulu Etidloie

Born in Cape Dorset in 1946 Etulu is the son of artists Etidloie Etidloie and Kingmeata.  Etulu is best known for his depictions of loons, such as the one seen above. 
 
A man of many talents, Etulu is also a musician, specializing in singing traditional Inuit folk music.  

 

Etulu's birds have been a favourite of Inuit art collectors since the late '70s. His work is featured in the AGO, the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Winnipeg Art Gallery as well as collections in Europe and the United States.
