Art Appraisal Discoveries:
I recently read a bizarre article about a woman who damaged a Clyfford Still painting.  I'm not really sure why this happened, but the article made me remember an Antiques Roadshow clip in which a woman discovers that a Clyfford Still painting she received as a gift is worth a half a million dollars. I love how she tries to keep her cool as the appraiser tells her a Still painting recently sold for 21 million dollars.

Researching and appraising art are some of my favourite things to do at the gallery. Each object has a fascinating history behind it - who made it, where it came from, why it was acquired. Objects that are collected and inherited hold secret values. Sometimes that value is sentimental. Often those values are monetary as well.

My dream one day is to tell someone they have a $500,000 painting and watch their eyes light up like the woman in the video. If there is artwork in your home that you're curious about, please bring them in to be appraised.

Beyond the chance for an amazing discovery, having your art appraised protects your investment should it be damaged or misplaced and ensures that your loved ones recognize the value of your precious things when you decide to pass them on.

All the best in 2012!

Ancient Pottery
Speaking of discoveries...

One of the most exciting finds of 2011 were these pots from
and Israel.  I recently had the opportunity to present them to a client and it reminded me how fascinating they were to research.

Each one has a personality of its own. Hand crafted by people thousands of years ago, these pots are little windows into the every day activities of the people living in these regions.

I still can't believe no one has taken these little masterpieces home. Book an appointment today to come check these out and hold a piece of ancient history in your hands.
