Arctic Experience McNaught Gallery - Newsletter 1.6

Featured Artist:
Kenojuak Ashevak

One of the best known
and most acclaimed Inuit artists, Kenojuak Ashevak's work includes some of the
most recognizable drawings, prints and sculpture from Canada's North.

Kenojuak was born on south Baffin Island in 1927 and spent her youth traveling from camp to camp on the island.  In 1966 Kenojuak and her husband (artist Johnniebo Ashevak) settled in Cape Dorset where their children could attend school.

She is best known for her vibrant, attractive graphic designs and her depictions of birds. Her work is in high demand and extremely collectable.

The gallery features a print of one of Kenojuak's famous owls.  Entitled, "Sun Owl" this early print from 1963 is also in the collections of the National Gallery and the Art Gallery of Ontario.

This week's newsletter features a couple videos for your viewing pleasure.
